Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

The excuse is "human error" no explanation as to how and why

Hooper initially was ready to whistle and award a free kick, but he showed excellent anticipation and waved play-on he did all that under pressure whilst running to try an keep up with play, not easy and for that he must be congratulated
Then something happen, what we dont know and can only speculate
Was he spoke to?
Was he knackered and didn't fancy the run?
Did he mistaking think the ball was to City's advantage, some say he couldn't see Jack.
Im sure theres more so a made who had made an excellent first class decision to change his mind suddenly for whatever reason made an almighty cock-up
He is not a lone person he has a team around him backed up by VAR he is fully aware of this, its the way he works in every game he trains and works with his colleagues they im to be the best they can

Seems very strange to me and it's why I don't accept the "human error" excuse I dont know what but there is something sinister and nefarious about it

I really do just think he misread the quality of the ball through from Haaland and blew too soon. Thought his reaction was of someone who immediately knew he screwed up too.

He should have been dropped for the next game but most refs will say they’ve made that same human error before themselves.

The frustrating bit was he got the initial bit correct in terms of allowing play on for a few seconds, most wouldn’t have done that. It makes what follows it even more glaring an error though.

Spot on “human error” excuse would’ve been more relevant pre var but not anymore . We have tech to correct that very human error so why are they not using var to fix it?

He blew when the ball had bounced in front of Jack. PiGMOL propaganda said when it was in the air He denied a goal scoring opportunity which a player would be sent off for andbanned for a game

But that would be an absolutely terrible time to give a final advantage! If he was being assessed, he’d have been marked down for that as much as he would the error that he actually did.
I don't agree there, at all. It he had left it with the initial advantage, this thread would be 200 pages shorter, and Hooper would have received a great assessment.

I know Hooper only through his actions as a referee so I can't comment on his mental health or any of the other issues raised on here, and I certainly can't accuse him of being a cheat. But I can say with certainty that his decision in the last minute of stoppage time on Sunday was an absolute howler. I know that there is no law forcing the referee to play the advantage, I know it's left entirely up to the referee to judge but this is not carte blanche for the referee to behave in any way he wishes. The spectacle is the game of football and the referee is not actually part of that. He is there to see that the teams play football, to enforce the rules when necessary and to see that those breaking the rules don't benefit from doing so. This is where Hooper fell lamentably short of what was expected of him. He actually took over from the football and, at a crucial, possibly decisive moment, ensured that a team breaking the rules benefitted from their transgression: City were denied any benefit which might have ensued from Haaland's determination to play the game. The fact that the PL see no reason for criticism of a referee who seems to drop clanger after clanger is doubly reprehensible.
