You are perfectly correct. It has always been impossible to accurately judge when the ball is touched especially if the ball is moving. This is what gives the officials the advantage on judging if the player is offside or not especially on tight calls. In other words they make it up. City offside? Rags etc not.It doesn’t show he wasn’t either though and the call on field was offside.
As you suggest, determining the exact point of contact is impossible, so your version is just as valid as the one in the picture.

The difference when it comes to a similar incident for a cartel club is stark!!
The bigger problem is that the ball will have stayed in contact with Bernardo’s foot for maybe a quarter of a second while he was playing the ball. they are supposed to judge whether Bobb is offside when Bernardo’s foot first makes contact with the ball, which is probably a frame before. Maybe two, because the ball is just about leaving his foot there.
