Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

There is a simple answer. Use the same approach as cricket and only overturn on-field decisions where there is a clear margin.

Marginal decisions should go the with the referee’s original decision.
The 'margin' of error will always be subjective. Certain teams will be allowed finer or wider margins depending on the situation.

I'm almost certain that games are being manipulated to keep them competitive longer keeping the TV audiences interested. That's why we get so many early decisions going against us like Bob's goal on Friday. If that was allowed to stand (it looked like they rolled the frame on a couple - that 'margin' of error) Spurs may have capitulated and the game could have been over before before half time leading to a lot of neutral fans switching off.

re offsides, either automate them and accept 1mm off is 'off', or just bin the offside rule altogether :)

no inbetween, no subjectivity, no argument.

That's why I'd accept the semi automated system. It's quick and does the job. Unlike certain match officials who need 5 minutes who decide to manipulate the result.

to be honest I'm sick of football being reduced to petty squabbling over offsides, or a vast array of interpretations of the handball rule and so on. Football fans are clearly getting more and more het up about perceived on-field injustices that we should just remove and simplify as much as the process as possible. Removing VAR isn't really the option anymore, updating it and using it properly is, though.

But this is the thing. Tell me what Bobb could have done to stay onside in that situation? He was looking along the line, he was waiting for the ball to be played. He did everything right apart from the fact that his foot was extended in a running movement that led to his toe being three inches beyond the defender's. Unless he was hopping, one frame earlier, or probably later for that matter, he would have been onside because his foot would have been withdrawn by three inches. This whole thing is removing the art of staying onside.

Unnecessary, imho.
Especially when they came out last season and said they'd lowered the threshold after Rashford's full foot was offside against the Dippers at OT.
As it suits with the bent f"ckers

City have benefitted from it at least once this season. It’s was a Grealish goal at home. There was only one line, indicating the tolerance level had been applied. I think it’s about five centimetres, although they’ve never officially confirmed that.

So it's not for every game then, just a select few?

What? It’s a tolerance level used in all VAR games for the last couple of years, when the two lines overlap on an offside.
So explain, for example how was Rashford's full foot being offside vs the Dippers deemed ok with the tolerance and yet (only an example) Bobbs toenail wasn't?

I vaguely remember the Rashford goal but can’t remember the image they showed now.

It wasn’t just Bobb’s toenail offside. Aside from arguments over which frame they used, there is a small green line in between the two player’s lines on the image someone posted on here at the time.
