Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

I’d just say those who think all is fine and dandy are in an ever decreasing minority on here…
And that’s fine. That’s not doubting someone’s honesty.

The roses are reversed for you in the Starmer thread, where most think you are the one WUMming. Accusing posters of that gets nobody anywhere, does it?

The politics sub forum is no place for the mentally sane.

You either agree wholeheartedly with the forums Pol Pots or they set the XL Bully’s on you and from that there is no coming back ever.

Refs are shit because of VAR, its implementation and the bias that has been around since day dot to certain teams.

Most grow up as rag or dipper fans etc and then deny it just to get games and they then perform to please those clubs, safe in the knowledge they will be welcomed back.

I was merely using it as a comparison, to try to get you to see what point I was making.

The refs may or may not be as you describe, however, no discussion would ever change your mind as it’s a gut feeling.

I try to enjoy football for its entertainment, not because I want a heated debate on how many yellow cards different your view is to the referee actually officiating.

People bemoan xG as a stat as it is different for say Haaland shooting from 8 yards to Scott Carson.

Yet xYC seems to be a thing for these people. There have been 5 fouls, so therefore there should have been 2 bookings or whatever.

Each foul is different. Each referee is different. It cannot be a black and white process. There’s a heck of a lot of grey areas.

It 100% effects the outcome of tonight's game. When opposition players (Joelinton and others) were allowed to foul with impunity it gave them an UNFAIR advantage which effected the decision making of our players.
The titles we’ve won have been against a continuing tide of anti-City, pro rag dipper arsenal agenda, which we all know exists and as Pep says “nobody hells us”. Winning 5 out of 6 titles with this clear bias (just look at the fouls and bookings v % possession) is basically miraculous

Here's the get out for the refs. So if the ref doesn't consider it to be kicking shit out of Phil Foden get over it he doesn't care.
1. Direct free kick
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
• charges • jumps at
• kicks or attempts to kick • pushes
• strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt) • tackles or challenges
• trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact, it is penalised by a direct free kick.
• Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed
• Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned
• Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and/or endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:
• a handball offence (except for the goalkeeper within their penalty area)

And thst's the territory in which the skullduggery lies. Refs are eager to tread into the 'grey areas' so it explains why Rodri gets sent off but Casemiro doesn't! When you look at both with the aid of slo-mo it's Casemiro that should get the red!

My favourite was that geordie scrub Longstaff piled into the back of Philips shoving him into Akanjis face and knocking him off the ball enabling Newcastle posession and a powder puff challenge followed in the melee giving a free kick to them. Akanji rightly had a word and got booked.

Thoroughly shit game managing, two tiered refereeing from start to finish.

I also laughed when Dummet jumped on Fodens back running into their area and shitbag commentator remarked "you're not getting a foul for that" when I've seen our players sent off for less contact in less threatening areas in similar situations.

Joellinton given free reign to kick who he liked when he liked with no action. There were so many grabs and sly pulls after challenges i lost count.

Loads of cynical middle of the field transitional fouls by Tonali that were supposed to be the masters of and get a yellow every time for, yet he got booked for kicking the ball away for the 3rd time.
You forgot all the time wasting as well
