Ref Watch

PiGMOL, the FA, Uefa, FIFA have everything going for them. They are frightened to death of adopting the transparency which is part of other sports' decision making. The only explanation is that they want to arrive at results that suit them. That game yesterday is another in a long line where the 'powers that whistle' salvaged something from the match by ensuring the LotG were sufficiently 'bent' to avoid some unfavourable decision being taken - Jimmy Avarice off for an early bath. Tierney is the last kind of human being who should be in charge of any game of football. He exhibits cowardice when courage is needed.
Actually I think it was a bent decison. I don't trust Tierney or Mike Dean who was on the touchline. It was not cowardice in my view.

So nothing about (second) yellow cards as I said, and Milner's late offence is the most clear cut regarding the incompetence showed by Tierney yesterday.
The Foden incident looked like a foul, initially outside the box. It might have been given had he gone down after the stumble (as ALL rags and dippers would have done) rather than stayed on his feet. That shouldn't affect whether an offence has been committed and VAR should have reviewed whether it was inside the box. - It's possible VAR did review it and either decided it wasn't a foul or that it was outside the box. I don't believe VAR can call for a free kick once they've decided it was outside the box.
Think you'll find they can. Can definitely review for possible red card, for denying of goalscoring opportunity, (which it was) in my opinion... either penalty AND red card (no attempt to play ball) or if outside area no penalty but red card for denying goalscoring opportunity.

I suppose they could say it was outside the box and there was a Liverpool player who could cover. Seems a bit of a nonsense that they can only intervene if Foden gets into the box which he was prevented from doing by a blatant foul. I think that is way too skewed towards protecting the worst kind of cynical play but that’s the system they’ve set up.

I fully agree it was a goal scoring opportunity - Foden would’ve got a shot away, but the way these decisions seem to be made is on the basis of whether there is another defender there or not. The ref not getting told to look at the third clear ‘yellow/red card’ not getting given is inexplicable.

Of course, that is just VAR. Why the ref couldn’t see these things on his own in the first place is a total mystery.
