Ref Watch

Not for me, it was very close but sadly he was off.
I don't have a specific problem with the decision If he's off he's off However, bearing in mind, the lino saw nothing, Palace didn't complain, the ball is back on the centre spot to re-start, VAR then take the best part of 3 mins to rule it out If it takes 3 minutes of forensic examination to rule out a City goal (as opposed to 10 seconds to allow a "red" goal), i'm sorry, i do now have a problem, if it takes that long, (and is that marginal) it should be ONSIDE!

I said the same. There’s a hell of a lot of people who have turned away from football, and a hell of a lot of young people who don’t like it from a young age, because of two main areas…

Football is proper fucking boring half the time. The ball is in play for an average of just 56 minutes a game. That’s over 1/3 of the entire game, over half a fucking hour, where there are thousands of spectators in stadiums watching 23 blokes stand still on some grass.

And this is every single game in the sport. IT’S FUCKING BORING!

The other area is the diving and feigning injury.

It’s when you see stats like this that’s you realise how much of an abomination it is that time wasting in the game hasn’t been sorted. Not even begun to be sorted.

The rule of a keeper holding it in his hands is never enforced, they get booked late on in games when it doesn’t matter, players picking the ball up on a throw in then dropping it for somebody else to jog over to take it, players walking off the pitch when subbed, the rule of players needing to go off the closest side of the pitch when subbed is never enforced, rolling a free kick 5 yards ahead in the hope the ref tells them to move it back so they can waste time, running 5 yards ahead on a throw in for the same reason, going into the corner at the end of games, subs in stoppage time and the list goes in.

It’s wank and when people spend a lot of fucking money, money which could stretch a household, to watch players waste time instead of playing football, it’s disgraceful really and should be sorted out higher up.

This is exactly what Jonny Moss did last time he got his iron lung pressurised. "Goal kick? Ah, time for me to get my breath back as I walk slowly back to the halfway line. If he still hasn't taken the kick when I turn round in the centre circle, I'll give him a wave." They don't bother. I think it is this kind of shitty reffing that will drive away fans from the game far sooner than having to suffer decades of a shit team. I kept saying to the guys next to me that he will book him on 87 mins. It turned out to be 85. Why a booking on 85 mins when the wastrel has been taking the piss at every goal kick for 84 mins? I can imagine what would be said if one of the Whistling Wankers ignored other infringements of the LotG for 84 mins. I find it totally insulting, having paid hard earned to get a seat and then see an opposition goalkeeper deny us five minutes of playing time each half. Two minutes at HT was another joke. I think a freshly scooped dog turd off the towpath of the Ashton Canal prior to kick off was about the standard of reffing today. And while I'm on the rant, the picture of the VAR offside goal was pretty clear - why did it take so long when I nailed offside two seconds after seeing the screen. I smell a VAR rat. Had they superimposed a pair of size 16 boots on Foden so that his toe nail was nearer the goal line? And another, their offside goal began with the forward collecting the ball five yards behind our last defender, three touches and he 'scores', and the lino puts up his flag. It was blatantly obvious the only outcome would be offside. Perhaps the wankers were waiting for the Palace time-waster on the goal line to run 115 fuckin' yards past everybody and toe-end it in?

Roll on Wednesday!
Rant away, do! It's therapeutic!

Agree with everything you've stated here, if I might amplify a couple of points..

First, I looked at the screen clock on 6 consecutive occasions in the first half when Palace wasted time. The quickest they got the game going was was 24 seconds, with three occasions being well over 30 seconds. I estimated that we were short changed throughout the whole game by around 12 minutes with the goalkeeper's antics alone, never mind the time wasted over throw-ins and feigned injuries. That's US, the paying public, who were robbed yesterday. And until useless f*ckers like Marriner start doing something about it EARLY in a game, it will continue to spoil games and make people think 'What's the point?'

Second, this instruction to linesmen not to flag offsides immediately etc is going to bite the football decision makers on the backside one day. Had Ederson charged out and made contact with the Palace player, there may have been injury to both. One day a player or even two will get injured badly because play wasn't stopped. Then, of course, the useless twunts running the game will quietly go back to the old way of doing things.

Shame we had an off day yesterday and met up with a Palace side in good form and intent on sucking the entertainment out of the game. Onwards and upwards!

Rant over! That's my quota done for the day.. the medics only allow me 2 per day nowadays..

Exactly.. by taking that long they are looking for any remote possibility they can find to rule out the goal.. it’s totally the wrong approach. Fans go to matches to cheer when goals are scored and not to see them ruled out by a manufactured millimetre ‘offside’. Something is only clear and obvious if it’s a mistake made by the human eye.

I get where you're coming from and at least we'd all feel better about "clearly offside", but no matter what the rules are, institutional bias would still rear it's ugly head with VARs involvement; we'd simply be left arguing that "Foden's trailing foot is still inline with the defender" vs ""there's clear daylight between Ronaldo and the defender" (if you get my point.)
Yeah I get your point but giving the majority of the benefit to the attacker is still surely better for the game, but I agree cheats will always be cheats

I think it’s quite clever what they are doing taking 3 mins to work out if a player is offside or not,it’s more about killing one team’s momentum, while giving the other a breather to regroup..
From the original footage I thought he was just onside as he was running at goal but from the replay it showed he was just off. However, when you looked at the ball being kicked it also looked like the ball had clearly left his foot rather than being kicked.

The choice of frame has a huge impact when a player his running at full tilt and all I can say is that they may have been deciding which frame was ‘chosen’.

When you understand this reality, everything else makes sense.
Yes that and timekeeping are so easy to manipulate.
I think I read that Pigmol have a supervisory ref who on hand to advise all matches on a particular day. Perhaps Riley himself?
Both Marriner and the Leicester ref got out their respective cars pretty quickly and it is very rare VAR overrule refs. Whatever, the inconsistency on such important decisions is awful.
