Ref Watch

I didn’t think it was a penalty. Telles got a toe to the ball and didn’t deviate direction when stretching out his leg.

I also didn’t think CR37’s challenge was a red card.

Fernades should have been booked for his challenge though.

Ronaldo's challenges in our game and in the Liverpool game both could easily be interpreted as serious foul play, in my opinion.

I thought he caught de Bruyne on the knee.

Fernandes not getting booked was just plain wrong, I thought.

The Ronaldo and Telles things are things you'll see being punished with more than was given.
I think the Telles one is where the biggest debate lies.

More and more, we’re seeing fouls given when the ball has been won.

Granted, it doesn’t strictly matter, but how is a defender supposed to slide/stretch out a leg to poke the ball away without making contact with the attacker?

If Telles had got a full foot to the ball and smashed it behind for a corner and then tackled Jesus in the follow through, should that be a penalty?

Yes, it isn't clear cut. I would say the argument comes down to the minor touch and his followthrough hitting Jesus' foot as he tried to push off from it. I don't think Telles got enough of the ball to take it away from Jesus.

A harder followthrough would depend on whether the ref at WHU was reffing when it would be play on, the ref at Everton where it was yellow, or the VAR man at Everton who thought it was red!

Then in the dying moments of the Red Devils’ funeral march in the derby, Ronaldo flew on in a prone Kevin De Bruyne, who had already been fouled by Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno getting remotely close to a City player was an eyebrow-raising moment in itself, but Ronaldo then slid studs first into a defenceless opponent. Haven’t Kevin’s ankles been through enough, Cristiano? Oliver showed a mercy yellow card, with the overall hopelessness of United’s situation again granting Ronaldo the leniency he didn’t deserve. It was exactly the same with his roughhousing of Jones.
