If the fact he played on stopped a VAR revue then that is bloody stupid.

imo Fabinho should have been shown a red card for his 'tackle' on Bernardo at our place, subsequently serving a three match ban . Assuming one of the games would've been the FA Cup semi v City. Spurs would then be his second match back after serving the ban .He should now have a further three game ban for his elbow on Son, therefore missing five of the last seven league games. The officials do appear to show them more leniency than others and that's putting it lightly.

I doesn't stop a VAR review. The rule is that if the ref is going to give a red, then he has to stop the game. VAR can obviously still review, otherwise how could they ever review anything the ref had missed?

Still, in my opinion, it looked worse at full speed. On the replay, pretty sure he had both feet on the ground and it looked like he completely missed Grealish with them, but ended up with more of a tackle by tackle.

Yeah, I didn't think it was on the Ayling scale. Looked more yellow than red to me, from memory.

My understanding is that you're also right on process - the ref says in the mic "yellow card to be given on stoppage". VAR then look to see if a recommendation for a red card is appropriate. It won't go on the screen, because there is no stoppage to explain.

Fabinho should have been sent off, but there's a major inconsistency with the refs and VAR that won't change and we have to just accept it unless VAR is adopted by an independent panel who aren't refs.

Look at the tackle Kane did on Robertson, clear red and he didn't even get a yellow, don't like going against City players but silva was lucky not to get 2 yellows against liverpool and how many times have we gulped after a Fernandinho challenge over the last couple of years and then breathed a sigh of relief when he hasn't been asked to walk off the pitch.

Richarldson is another prime example of someone who gets away with a lot of bookable challenges.

Until the refs are held accountable for their decisions it'll be the same old next season.

As far as I am aware the game must be stopped immediately for serious foul play (red card offences) if the referee on the field deems its a red. He didn't so we are then into 'clear and obvious error' territory and I guess VAR (if they even reviewed it at all) didn’t think he'd made a mistake.

I think he can only play advantage if there is a clear goal scoring opportunity. Which of course begs the question, if you’re red carding a player for ‘denial of a goal scoring opportunity‘ but the attacking team still score, would you still be sent off? Common sense says absolutely not but………

Yeah that's the advice, only if there's clear opportunity to score

If the offence is dogso and ref plays on then it would be a yellow card (as the goal scoring chance was restored)
