Ref Watch

Eventually pulled it back and gave a yellow. One he'd played on he couldn't give a Red card.

Probably under instructions not to give a red at any costs unless it was absolutely blatant, but in my opinion that was.
If the fact he played on stopped a VAR revue then that is bloody stupid.

Same area of recklessness as Ayling got his marching orders. Another example of random variations in the application of the LotG within the same game, in opposing halves, the next game, games played within a twenty five mile radious - all different outcomes! I think that PiGMOL has some difficulty in understanding what consistency means. But there again they can claim they are consistently wayward in the variety of their decisions.

I watched MotD2 just to see what the studio had to say about the 'tackle' on Grealish and the wrestiling-cum-rugby variations at corners but there was not a word or a frame!
Thought it was as bad if not worse than the Ayling tackle, PGMOL are answerable to nobody that is the problem.

Dermot looks gravely ill these days.
He shouldn't be burdening all those lies Sly pay him to preach.
He will have to repent soon if he is to meet his maker

I doesn't stop a VAR review. The rule is that if the ref is going to give a red, then he has to stop the game. VAR can obviously still review, otherwise how could they ever review anything the ref had missed?

Still, in my opinion, it looked worse at full speed. On the replay, pretty sure he had both feet on the ground and it looked like he completely missed Grealish with them, but ended up with more of a tackle by tackle.

What is found noticeable today was the number of times our player making a pass was bumped and barged, hitting the turf, to make sure he couldn't partake of any further part in the move he had just begun.
It was disgraceful, and he let them off with it every time, maybe we are a bit weak in some challenges, but this was something else.

One of the worst refereeing displays I've ever seen, and that is saying something.

Playing on is irrelevant to getting a red card in this scenario (red for a bad tackle).
As far as I am aware the game must be stopped immediately for serious foul play (red card offences) if the referee on the field deems its a red. He didn't so we are then into 'clear and obvious error' territory and I guess VAR (if they even reviewed it at all) didn’t think he'd made a mistake.
