Ref Watch

Ref was way out of his depth today. There is a reason he doesn’t ref high profile games. VAR was equally poor. We spend a fortune each season to watch City and then some useless twats ruin the game by not applying the LOTG at all. Makes me really wonder about whether this will be my last season as it’s week after week. The game is becoming more like WWE each week.

I will always maintain that we get the standard of officials we deserve in football.

Fans are cunts with them and give them far too much stick. They get stick when they’ve had a good game, never mind when they’ve had a poor game. Fans scrutinise everything far too much with pure delusion at times as they never allow for human error in any of their analysis of decisions. They also judge referees who see things once from one angle at one speed and have to make a decision there and then, whereas the fans can see multiple replays before they form an opinion on what they’ve seen.

And the players are cunts with them. All their pathetic diving, feigning injury and claiming for everything makes their job much harder to the point where they probably aren’t sure of most of the things they see anymore.

Who the fuck would want to be a referee?

As bad as any referee performance is or the general standard of referees, it isn’t PIGMOLs fault, it’s not the FAs fault, it’s the fault of the fans and players/managers. We’d have a far better pool and standard of officials if fans just shut the fuck up about them and got real about a number of things, and if players stopped all their bollocks that’s also shit for the game as well as for the officials.
You’re blaming everything on others rather than the officials themselves?

Put it this way, if they are shit because they get a bit of stick then what explains the absolute incompetence when the officials come to some of these decisions.

Time keeper definitely required.
Fulham and Brentford have provided absolute masterclasses in time wasting in the last two PL games with no action taken by the referees.

Good job the FA were so keen to emphasise their desire to stamp out time wasting this season and see the ball in play more…. Another load of hot air !

He let us repeat a corner because it was a foul , that's a pen. 4 times the manhandle us at least 2 pen
This. The correct way to stop a defending team from committing foul after foul at corners is to AWARD A PENALTY. That guarantees to prevent further occurrences in the game. They shouldn't even be warned. If they are fouling, penalise the culprits.

There is so much inconsistency within individual games. Think back to the Liverpool game. Taylor handled it really well, let the game flow and ignored small fouls. Then we score, and suddenly VAR finds a tiny foul to disallow it for.

Today it was like WWE in the penalty area when we had a corner. Yet outside the penalty area, every minor touch by one of ours on one of their players, and it's an immediate free kick.

Coote showed his true colors midweek, letting United players off deserved red cards. Did anyone notice when he cautioned Fernandez? He was trying to get Fernandez to come back to him so he could show him the yellow card. Fernandez just completely ignored him and walked away, showing zero respect. (Par for the course for him). Coote ended up waving the yellow card in the general direction of the retreating Fernandez. Coote does not command the respect of players. He is out of his depth.

It is telling when Anthony Taylor is the best referee in the league at present only edging out Michael Oliver becasue he is a bottler in big games.

The next level down the likes of mariner, attwell, madley, hooper, kavanagh who are barely competent and prone to bad calls.

Then you have ineptitude and pettiness the likes of England, Cootes, Tierney, scott, Pawson.

that last lot whether on the pitch or the VAR room constantly wind up and frustrate fan bases not just ours, they spoil games and get fans backs up.

Yes fans and players can over react, but it isn't like it is just us, every game even with the help of technology more and more bad decisions are highlighted.

we need refs miked up and new rules regarding time keeping (I think the stop clock needs to come into play myself) in my opinion to sort out a lot of the frustration. so fans know why decision are made, stop players from bad mouthing and the main cause of frustration, time wasting removed.
15 second stop clock for goal kicks and corners
10 second stop clock for free kicks and throw-ins

Mic up the officials, including VAR.

Retrospective fines and bans for clear dives or where players are rolling around to stop play but get up and are perfectly alright running around within seconds.

Red cards for purposeful time wasting, no warnings, no bookings first, straight red.

Give the fourth offices the ‘book’ so the ref can just get on with refereeing instead of having to write down who he’s booked.

We will never get officials of the standard required in this sport while we have fans and players who treat them as they currently do. The standard and size of talent pool required will just never get involved in officiating. It’s as simple as that.

It’s exactly the same with teachers, same with the Police, same with politicians…

Treat people in tough jobs like shit and you will reduce the talent pool, recruit shit and get shit officiating/teaching/policing/politicking back.

The officials aren’t shit because they get a bit of stick. They’re shit because of the level of shit they get (and that’s anything up to death threats) plus the over-scrutinisation of every single one of their instant decisions (they make fewer mistakes than the players and managers do!) everything is looked at in the studio a dozen times and then all week on things like SSN, from ten angles, zoomed in, slowed down… the refs don’t get to see anything like that, they see it once from one angle at one speed and have to make a decision there and then… this stops people wanting to get involved in refereeing from the outset.

I think fans and pundits are completely deluded when it comes to much of what they moan about with referees.

Although, not so much today, as that ref just didn’t deal with their timewasting. But we get that level of referee because of everything I’ve said.

If it’s so easy to referee a game of football like fans and pundits all seem to think, why aren’t all these fans and pundits top referees? The talent pool is tiny because almost nobody wants to get into refereeing.
