Ref Watch

I think the 0-2 was 09/10 and I'm sure Arteta scored for Everton.
There was also a 1-2 game he reffed the season after and iirc both were night matches.
In both he was bent as fuck, his favourite trick was giving the opposition free kicks in dangerous areas for nothing challenges.
Did he retire suddenly one mid season after he was exposed for something dodgy?
March 2012 was his last game in the PL (according to Wikipedia), which was also a 2-0 Everton win.

I remember watching Walton ref us at home versus Everton before we were decent, and although there was nothing riding on the game it was the most biased piece of officiating I have ever seen - strangely enough, not long after he was sent to America.
we were decent, was 2011/12 ish wasnt it?

"He did precisely as he's instructed to do." Yes, instructed by Webb, maybe?

You just have to look at the clip circulating Twitter and other media. McCann is confronted by Fernandes and Rashford after he flagged for offside. After a brief discussion, Fernandes turns away with a smile on his face. This is before Attwell has spoken to McCann. McCann has already told Fernandes that the goal will stand.

Neither of us know what he said to Attwell, but my version is probably more credible than yours, which is to put the blame entirely on Attwell.

They are both equally culpable, as is VAR for not advising a screen review.

One of the cop outs is that it was a subjective decision. Really? No, not really.

This is an extract from Law 11. Rashford is offside probably on all four points. There is nothing subjective about this, he is offside as perfectly described in black and white.

Or there is this example, again from the Laws of the Game. This makes it quite clear that a player running towards the ball, preventing an opponent from being able to play the ball is offside.

This didn't boil down to a matter of opinion. It was offside according to the LOTG.

I’ve seen a couple of quick replays. I’ve not studied facial expressions and jumped to conclusions about possible conversations.

Are you suggesting because Fernandez shouted at him it’s likely he told Fernandez he was going to change his mind and tell the referee he didn’t mean to flag really?

I agree with what you are saying but......in the first half, the same linesman put his flag up instantly to rule Phil Foden an inch at most, off side. Consistency is what we all crave.
But isnt the lino instructed to differentiate. Foden was wide (no goalscoring opportunity) so flag is up immediately. Rashford was central and could lead to a goal scoring opp so he delays the flag. Not saying i agree with that process but its what they are instructed to do. Bit unfair to criticise the lino imo, he did 100% as he is instructed. The issue is the ref ignoring the laws and making a decision that he cant possibly make from his position on the pitch (their half) when the incident initially happened…

I recall Foden getting flagged a couple of times when he was right out on the touchline in the first half. But they weren’t in positions where a shot at goal was looking imminent. So there would be no reason for a delayed flag. Are you talking about a different incident in a more threatening position?

It would be interesting if we found the film of the entire game and re-watched it.
Its the one that sticks out to me. My pal text me at half time saying the radio were reporting we’d boo’ed the team off and were we playing bad? I replied telling him id just seen the worse referee “performance” of my life and we were boing Walton not the team. He vanished quickly after. Might be worth a rewatch

I'd never been exposed to bent games before (City used to beat themselves) so me and my father were totally bemused watching it from the South stand that night.
