This was what we as fans were told at the beginning of this season and one must assume all the clubs were told.
The new directive will see the assistants only delay in cases when there is both a clear goalscoring opportunity and the call is a tight one. If a chance of a goal is not obvious - say play is headed out to the wings - or the assistant feels sure of the offside call they will flag immediately this season.
This call wasn't a tight one, Rashford ran for the ball despite him being quoted as knowing he was offside, so why the delay?
You are approaching this from the wrong angle Eds - the directive is not there to be strictly applied but to be totally ignored when one of their clan get it totally fucking wrong.
Lip service to theory - ignored in practice - the PiGMOL way .

Dermot Gallagher did a good job of explaining the thought process and possible conversation between the officials, but PGMOL have to provide clarity on that conversation. Firstly on why it led to an instant decision of goal and whether it truly led to VAR unable to intervene.
It now feels like had the offside stood, VAR could then truly get involved and provide the referee with sufficient angles to make an informed decision.
Seems like he rushed to give a goal and VAR remit is too narrow, it was left unable to actually help the fucking idiot.

I GUARANTEE VAR would have stepped in at the other end of the pitch had that been given as a goal AGAINST the Rag's
