Ref Watch

The keeper didn't get a touch on the ball(I don't see it, Foden knocked the ball on to exactly where he wanted it), he's definitely not "won the ball" and he's definitely caused the player to fall over. The rule isn't to graze the ball and this allows you to foul a player, you have to actually make a tackle, he didn't win the ball from his opponent, he just brought the player down which stopped him having a tap-in. The only question is, even if this phantom touch exists, does Foden still get to that ball if he isn't caused to stumble by the keeper fouling him? I'd say he does, easily.

Even the first contact argument is besides the point because if you watch the keepers left knee, it could be said it makes(slight) contact with the right foot of Foden before he reaches the left foot with his leading leg.

Look at the ball there, it's already on Foden's foot, so this is not a 50/50 challenge that the keeper was first to. Foden's intention here is to knock it ahead to run onto it, which he does. The keeper changed nothing but the latter part, with his foul.
And looking at that even the trailing leg would have touched Fodens right leg.
Lesson learnt Phil.Next time just do like all the other bent fuckers in red do ... just go down mate.

At various points all clubs are benefiting and losing from these decisions. The managers/chairmen/whoever should be demanding that refs and VAR officials are interviewed as part of the TV coverage, and where there isn't any live coverage, interview them for the match report. They need to be held accountable for their incompetence. Kelly Dalglish could then be allowed last night to go live to Stockley Park and ask Madley why he didn't give the penalty, with that clear camera shot on loop showing the contact. Then and only then will VAR be of any use.

It's down to the clubs to make it happen.
Spot on mate.

And VAR made the call instead of asking the ref to review the decision
VAR doesn't make the call They have got this get out that unless its clear and obvious they don't get involved. This get out ensures its subjective. C&O is not used for offside so we have the ridiculous examination drawing lines going on for ages, they tried to change the handball interpretation to make that black and white and made a complete mess of it. VAR has opened up a can of worms and totally messed up football, look at the 7 minutes of farce in the Dortmund game. Haaland scores but VAR calls it out for a supposed push, and the goal is disallowed but they the have to take play back over a minute to look at a possible foul on Haaland this is given and a penalty results The keeper saves the pen and play goes on with Sevilla attacking goal then the ref stops play to have the pen retaken because VAR sees the GK moved off his line. Haaland scores the second attack Imagine if Sevilla had scored. Football like life isn't perfect and before VAR it was better we need to get rid but unfortunately the powers that be like it Infantino thinks VAR is good as its added more suspense clearly they see it has an event that should be watch on TV

Yet another example of why communication between between the ref and VAR must be made public as it is in rugby. Even if we disagree with a decision at least we can try to understand the thinking behind it. Football is played at such speed now it is often impossible with the naked eye to see everything, hence why everyone thought VAR would be the answer. However the same people making bent decisions on the field are the same ones making them at Stockley Park. How did the conversation go last night.
Moss: No penalty that, I can see clearly from my position 30 yards away that the keeper touched the ball. Think that boy Foden has dived a bit there, might have to book him for simulation, do you agree?
VAR: Huge deflection on the ball fatty, I mean Jon, by the keeper and then the player in blue has fallen over trying to win a penalty. Best not book him though as we prefer to book Fernandinho later in the game and we have already cashed in with a first half penalty given. Give them a corner
Moss: Cheers boys, yet again I made the right decision despite my lack of fitness. Let them scoff all they like. Right on with the game.

Absolutely. Transparency is the only way to go.

Players checking VAR is not the answer. Judging by ex-players as pundits, they do not know the laws of the game and interpret according to their own prejudices.

'Clear and obvious' is massively subjective, and changes from incident to incident, let alone match to match. It's being used as a smokescreen.

Last night the referee claimed he saw contact on the ball from the keeper, and VAR claimed they couldn't prove otherwise, but I genuinely can't see how EITHER of those statements could be true. Not a single camera angle (that I've seen) shows contact, yet if there was a definitive angle that shows contact then the PiGMOL could easily clear up the confusion by showing it to us. The fact they haven't tells you everything you need to know.

BENT AS F*CK!!!

The most powerful clubs don't want that to happen, hence it won't unfortunately

We're still getting atrocious decisions with VAR, all clubs are! So if we're STILL getting the bad decisions then let's do it without VAR. It is ruining the game in part, may as well ditch it.

Moss is 50yrs old and clearly not fit. He was behind play for most for the game and when he was close to it he was usually in the way as he was too slow to move. I have never rated him since he awarded a pen for a handball against Micah when the ball was kicked at his foot from a couple of yard away and it came off his foot at speed and hit his hand which was down by his side. No way he could have avoided it,. Moss is incompetent and not fit.

Absolutely, it was a clear and obvious error because it was a penalty, the referee not giving it makes it a clear and obvious error, that's my take on these things.

That was another fatty, Phil Dowd at Anfield.

The touch is there, it deviates slightly and it's the keepers touch but it's so fine he would not have even felt it. He got 99.8 Foden's foot and 0.2% of the ball.
