I always thought that and Dean already done 2008. But Oliver did the 2018 and 2021 finals and Taylor the 2017 and 2020 games so this once in a lifetime is obviously bollocks. Although before these two the last ref to do two finals was some bloke called Arthur Kingscott in 1900 and 1901 so maybe it was a thing. Worryingly Attwell was involved on VAR in 2020, then fourth official in 2021 so surely he can't be ref this year.
He's not giving up refereeing altogether, just moving into full-time VAR role. Did an interview not that long ago where he said his fitness was starting to become an issue and could only manage to ref just one game a week these days.Hopefully replacing Walton in the BT Studio.
VAR should be a specific role in my humble opinion. He's not giving up refereeing altogether, just moving into full-time VAR role. Did an interview not that long ago where he said his fitness was starting to become an issue and could only manage to ref just one game a week these days.
His lack of fitness was apparent on Sunday. At least he was fair and blocked as many Southampton attacks as he did for us. Once each? Refs have to be somewhere on the pitch. Sometimes the players won’t know where they are going next, so how are the referees meant to know? His lack of fitness was apparent on Sunday. At least he was fair and blocked as many Southampton attacks as he did for us. It was embarrassing.

They also need to let the on field ref review more of their decisions at pitchside without having to overturn their decisions.
I reckon Dean would be good at that.
And his links to bookies...Dean is far more well known for his idiosyncrasies than his poor decisions.
Not by most. Just the few down the rabbit hole of corruption. And his links to bookies...
He was suspended for "Consulting" for one whilst being a referee. Not by most. Just the few down the rabbit hole of corruption.
Indeed. It still doesn’t mean that most people will think of that when looking back at his career. He was suspended for "Consulting" for one whilst being a referee.
No one forces you to watch them. If they upset you, why not watch something else? He'll be Sky Sports version Peter Walton next season.
The thought of Spitty, Neville and him Gaslighting us during a match against the dippers doesn't bear thinking about.
Although he looks like a triathlete when compared to Moss…..His lack of fitness was apparent on Sunday. At least he was fair and blocked as many Southampton attacks as he did for us. It was embarrassing.
Yes.Indeed. It still doesn’t mean that most people will think of that when looking back at his career.
Why do people get so wound up by referees?Yes.
He's the celebrity ref with the ego to match. Even growing that beard to troll during lockdown.
I can't see Reilly wanting him to stay in PiGMOL because he'll see him as a threat to his job.
I'd go further than your point about making him VAR overseer. I'd have him as the boss of the organisation. He wouldn't be able to resist being on Tele every week explaining decisions made. His ego would love his own show on the job.
Whereas Moss tries (and fails miserably) to be an athlete.Although he looks like a triathlete when compared to Moss…..
My brothers best mate andy garratt was the hero , getting barton sent offAs much of a legend on that glorious day as Sergio.
