Ref Watch

I think most junior and also some veteran leagues have unlimited rolling substitutions.
Correct. Here is the extract from the LOTG.

Brighton tried to kick us off the park when they realised that the ref was being lenient 2 seasons ago, and Southampton did similar last season.
Hmm, I half remember the Brighton game as being spicy, but our back’s were up because of the Cancelo sending off.

Can’t remember the Southampton game last season that you refer to.

Was it the one where Walker got a reprieve?

Yeah, Jonny Moss gave the pen before the Soton player hit the ground. And then VAR told him it was a Mossy cock up, but he still went to the monitor. But he did change his mind after thinking "Mmmm, if I give this pen I've lost the Wembers Final!"

It’s amazing how many people know what referees are thinking. It never seems to be a positive thought either, weirdly…

If you watch the Walker challenge back, we were very lucky that he did change his mind as it wasn’t a clear and obvious error.

Thank goodness for his cup final thought, hey? ;-)

No, I meant the away game when we drew 1-1. It was a night match (like the Brighton match the season earlier). They scored early (Walker-Peters first ever goal?) and from memory as we pushed and pushed for an equaliser their tackling got a bit desperate and IMO a little too tasty, with little action taken by the ref. Laporte got studs raked across his thigh which was given a yellow, and DeBruyne got chopped down a few times.

Fair enough. Most games have poor challenges in them.

I guess I’m fortunate that I can shove them to the back of my brain.

My memory of that game was missed chances.

I think, from the reaction of the players, that Walker got a full boot on the ball which, from where Jonny was, he wouldn't have seen it. A good outcome eventually.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t a foul though.
It's a very murky area when a player goes in for a tackle. He can win the ball and come away with it and still be called back by the ref when the entire ground thinks it was a perfectly good tackle and within the LotG. Then there are the players who, as soon as they feel a bit of contact, are dropping to the ground like a dead fly, and too many refs oblige. I said to my neighbour during the match on Saturday that Mahrez had been fouled twice inside five seconds but had chosen to stay on his feet and the ref plays advantage. I would sooner have the advantage of a free kick down by the corner flag with Haarland lurking on the penalty spot for a bullet header. And then there are those players who will take ball and add the player into the equation as a bit of extra insurance. All down to the judgement or ill-judgement of the wanker with the whistle, and they know that if there's any argument from a player out will pop a yellow card.

To be clear, the referee deemed Mahrez’s handball “intentional” to disallow Rodri’s goal, as unintentional handballs in the build up of a goal are no longer considered an offence. This was confirmed by the Paramount+ IFAB certified official they use as a rules expert during the halftime analysis show.

These are the current rules being used in the CL.

He was poor tonight.

Grealish got clattered 5 or 6 times by the same player and he did fuck all.

Also needed VAR for the Gomez sending off when EVERYONE else in the stadium saw it.

What is going on with Grealish in the Champions League, Teams are looking to kick the shit out of him
last season and this season, Jack is getting smashed and the officials doing nothing,

for me, It's for the reaction in hoping he kicks out and gets sent off, the officials offer no protection and even dare i say want him to smash somebody and an easy sending off. Much like the Beckham in the world cup fouled and kicked but kicks out and sent off,

Also, when you jump for a header and challenged, how can anybody say he deliberately uses his arm/hand to control the ball ?? Clueless or bent, I am picking bent

How could it be intentional? He was expecting the defender to get the ball and was caught when he didn't. If you look at the replays, he wasn't even looking at the ball when it hit his hand.
Ridiculous decision from the ref. Poor all night.
No issues with the sending off, but it killed the game. And the ref missed that too.

I think it is farcical that it was ruled intentional (I also think the decision to award us the penalty was ridiculous).

I was just trying to correct some misunderstandings of the current rules that were circulating in the match thread. Some were saying unintentional handballs in the build up could lead to goals being disallowed, which is incorrect.

There's some shit officiating in this Milan v Chelsea game and all!! Foreign refs love dishing cards don't they!!
