Ref Watch

Grealish should have been booked for diving. All things aside, the officiating is completely different from Premier League to Champion's League. The VAR utilisation is also conflicting.

On the Eddie incident. If that was the Premier League Attwell would have the red out seconds before the collision.

I honestly thought he was a gonna and had a horrible sinking feeling. 2-0 up but it would have been an onslaught for the remainder of the game. Expect to be shafted later on in the competition.

Thought he was too lenient with us last night.

Never a penalty. I'd have been fuming if that went against us.

And Ederson should have been booked and a free kick given, not sure how he missed that.

I think it was a pen because the rules say it was. It did hit his hand and his arm was out, in Champions League games that's a pen. The ref on the monitor sees only a tiny part of it to decide and the rules state pen.

Baffled by Ederson, by him and the ref.

The player guaranteed the pen when he decided to windmill his arm all over the place rather than just bring it down to his side. It was a peculiar performance from the ref though, he still managed to book Kev for objecting to being taken out from behind with no free kick given.

Never a penalty. Not the referees fault but VAR, I'd have been fuming if that went against us.

I agree, even Haalands challenges on the keeper could have been penalised. I loved the fact we scored 7 but if we reverse some of those decisions this place would have exploded last night and we'd still be in melt down.
The Eddie incident. I thought at the game he'd not given anything as it was offside. I watched it this morning and he was clearly on, Eddie just took him out, very bizarre.

Wasn't a pen and Eddy was lucky (probably would have been yellow as there was cover). Mad that we benefited from shite Champions League officiating
Yes it was a pen, handball in the area, hands above his head in unnatural position , that’s a clear on todays rules. Admittedly not as much a pen as the one not given in injury time at their place, but still a pen (albeit not deliberate handball, but that ain’t the rule)

Edit just watching the highlights and what was harsh was the yellow card, given it didn’t look deliberate

Edit edit just watched the slow motion and it is very harsh

Why did the ref award the free kick to us from the Eddy incident… thought at the time it was a red, seen one replay and seen nothing to convince me otherwise

Baffled at why the ref gave us a free kick
I can only think that he stopped the game to book Werner for dissent. Definitely a foul and a booking but wasn’t a goalscoring opportunity as the player was a mile away from the goal and heading towards the corner flag

Not to mention Stones or Grealish (can’t remember which just now) was literally shoulder to shoulder with him when Eddie made contact.

I do agree Eddie was fortunate not to get booked and give away a dangerous free kick.

It was definitely a case of BorEd looking for something to do.

Ref makes the decision having looked at the incident on the monitor

Harsh penalty to be honest, but that was owed to us from the 1st leg.

That rugby tackle from Eddy, baffles me how VAR missed that. Reminded me of how Eddy "got away with one" against Dortmund.

On the whole, teams in the Champions League seem to want to play football and make it easier for the ref. Premier League is stop/start. Too much "gamesmanship" going on.

Looking back at it at first I thought rodri headed it onto his out stretched arm but I'm just wondering if var thought it hit his outstretched arm before the header
