Ref Watch

Looking back at it at first I thought rodri headed it onto his out stretched arm but I'm just wondering if var thought it hit his outstretched arm before the header
It was given as a pen when Laporte headed it onto his own arm, noone seemed to have a problem with that one because his arm was stuck out.

Yes it was a pen, handball in the area, hands above his head in unnatural position , that’s a clear on todays rules. Admittedly not as much a pen as the one not given in injury time at their place, but still a pen (albeit not deliberate handball, but that ain’t the rule)

Edit just watching the highlights and what was harsh was the yellow card, given it didn’t look deliberate

Edit edit just watched the slow motion and it is very harsh
@BringBackSwales I'm waiting for your next edit that says it didn't touch his arm, because it doesn't. Very poor decision from Var and the ref.

Harsh penalty to be honest, but that was owed to us from the 1st leg.

That rugby tackle from Eddy, baffles me how VAR missed that. Reminded me of how Eddy "got away with one" against Dortmund.

On the whole, teams in the Champions League seem to want to play football and make it easier for the ref. Premier League is stop/start. Too much "gamesmanship" going on.

Not sure VAR would have done anything - wasn't a red card offence so they can't intervene.

That's what I thought from the first replays that were shown, then on others it didn't look like that. Either way, pretty harsh by PL standards but CL handballs seem to be take less "subjective" elements into account.

Still think it's a waste of VAR to look for things that nobody appealed for and nobody in the ground, or I suspect watching at home, even saw.

The ref was indicating that Ederson touched the ball with his upper leg before contacting the Leipzig player but then stopped to book Werner for something he said which is also why we got a free-kick (similar to when Kev did the same in the 2nd half for a foul that wasn't given on him).

' They even themselves over the season'

As Pep said in the pre match interview, their equaliser was a clear foul on Ruben, in the first leg.
I rang talk sport on Wednesday directly after the match and made the evening out argument, even though I don't subscribe to it. What shocked me was Cundy fully defended the Leipzig goal, saying where would football be going if goals like that are disallowed?

They're not interested in reason, just setting the agenda for the papers.
Gvaradiol's arms were locked out showing that (not only were his hands on Rubens shoulders) he was exerting downward pressure. I thought you were supposed to jump with your arms at your side now.

In fairness, we were fuming when we didn’t get the penalty at the end of the first leg
I was spitting feathers when we didn't get the one when Erling was pushed in the back. I thought the VAR check was for that one. The handball and the general penalty law has just become a fuckin' lottery. It makes as much sense to draw a raffle ticket before kick off as some of the decisions taken in the game.

On the Eddie incident. If that was the Premier League Attwell would have the red out seconds before the collision.

I honestly thought he was a gonna and had a horrible sinking feeling. 2-0 up but it would have been an onslaught for the remainder of the game. Expect to be shafted later on in the competition.
I don’t think Leipzig had an onslaught in them. They were bloody rubbish, played like they didn’t want to be there.

I agree with that. Gvardiol only put his hands on Dias for safety after he was already four feet above him in the air and about to head it. No foul for me.

Haha, like you say 4 feet above Diaz with all his weight on his shoulders. Diaz had no chance to jump and Diaz was used to allow the player to hover in the air, waiting for the ball to arrive. Foul all day long. I have a great photo to back myself up, but because I'm a useless foc I'm unable to post it.

Notice all the controversy over Newcastles penalty last night for a very similar handball. No one saying its the worst referee decision ever, no one saying its fixed.

No? Me neither.

Are Nottingham Forest really get dodgy calls from refs.
I see again forest arent happy about last nights ref.
It's a common theme with forest, have they got a point ?
I think so.

Going public in demanding Andy Madeley doesn't ref probably doesn't help.

Surprised their owner hasn't firebombed his house yet.

The majority of people involved with non top teams think that the ‘big’ clubs get favourable treatment, at the expense of those who have less attention on them and are unlikely to kick up a fuss.

My guess is that Forest have made a conscious decision to shout and scream as loud as they can about perceived injustices to try and level the playing field a bit.

Their disallowed goal did seem a bit odd - the ball was played to the Forest player ruled offside by a Newcastle defender and was very much not a deflection, it was a deliberate interception

You’ve got it the wrong way round. It was a Newcastle “goal “

The bizarre part for me is how crap the rules are as it’s one of those ones imo that should be offside as he’s ahead of ball when first cross goes in and therefore should be classed as active when it bounces back out to him.
