Referees’ Performances 2018/19

The problem with 'highlights' is that they only show you what they want to show you.

Kompany's yellow card .... no argument on that, went through the back of him
The first Wolves goal .... correctly ruled out for offside
The second Wolves goal .... clearly handball when shown on the replays but difficult to spot in real time
Silva's penalty appeal .... not sure Atkinson was ever going to give it but probably got it correct regardless
Sergio's penalty appeal .... nowhere near enough in it imho

All 'highlighted' in the highlights, not sure there was anything else that warranted special attention.

As I said, he enjoys it. And there is nothing wrong with that. You need to have your facts straight - other teans fans will be harder on you.

To be honest its only ever the bias stuff where I typically flow against the tide as with pretty much everything else my views are pretty average.

The one thing which makes me think I am not being unneccassarily contrary is if you added up the number of penalties people believe are pens on here it would completely dwarf those awarded to other clubs and break the record for pens awarded every season. Which indicates the way fans view pens is a very different threshold to how refs in the prem view them.

For example some fans on here believe we should have been awarded two pens yesterday and yet in the whole of last season 5 clubs in the Premiership never received more than 2 pens. I find it difficult to believe that over the course of 38 games similar moments such as the Silva/Aguero never took place.

2 pens yesterday would have matched the total Burnley, Swansea and West Brom received over 114 games last season.

I think you give blues to little credit there. My initial reaction was it was a penalty at the time, which is normal during the course of a match, but with the benefit of slo-mos, different tv angles etc I am now not convinced, and I would imagine that is the reason others have reached this opinion and is nothing to do with being influenced by pundits. Its difficult to criticise the ref for not giving it if even on a City forum people cannot agree if it was a pen.

The angles they want you to see........ The Silva incident was such a blatant push i didn't need to see any slow mo's. Anyone suggesting that Silva is a player who seeks to cheat is a disgrace. His reaction to the incident says more than any carefully selected slow mo.

Contrast this with Oliver's performance in the Liverpool palace game where he didn't need any excuse to award a penalty to the dippers.

I had a dream last night that later in the season that Aguero will be sent off for defending himself after an opposition player punched him.

The worrying thing is, I can imagine the English (scouse) referees being so incompetent doing that. I’m really worried that the scousers are going to do it. Their squad is nowhere near as good as City’s but they have the media on their side, the refs are on their side and scudimore is desperate for Liverpool to win the league.

Vouchers for Specsavers eyetests for all refs is the way to go!
Attacthing electrodes with a 50000 volt shock when they FAIL to see something during the test would be quite good fun - 50000 volts? NAH CRANK IT UP TO ELEVENTY SEVEN.
Atkinson yesterday might as well have walked out on the pitch wearing his rag pj's, carrying his rag teddy and rag blanky.
It WAS that obvious.

Sorry but, never a penalty on Silva, he kicked the back of his own leg! Very poor decision on the goal yes but not the pen ( Sergio should of been booked for dive as well)
The penalty appeal isn't for the trip. Its for the barge into Silva's back that resulted in him tripping himself up. Its a foul anywhere else on the pitch so why not in the penalty area?
Atkinson rarely gives penalties for anything to anyone so its not particularly dubious.

Thought the choice of kit was stupid. Both team dark shorts and yellow socks would have made more sense to wear our home strip. I must be mistaken in thinking that a change strip is to avoid a clash of colours

Having just seen it again on Match of the day it is a penalty any day of the week. Its not the trip it's the push in the back!
