Referees’ Performances 2018/19

To be honest its only ever the bias stuff where I typically flow against the tide as with pretty much everything else my views are pretty average.

The one thing which makes me think I am not being unneccassarily contrary is if you added up the number of penalties people believe are pens on here it would completely dwarf those awarded to other clubs and break the record for pens awarded every season. Which indicates the way fans view pens is a very different threshold to how refs in the prem view them.

For example some fans on here believe we should have been awarded two pens yesterday and yet in the whole of last season 5 clubs in the Premiership never received more than 2 pens. I find it difficult to believe that over the course of 38 games similar moments such as the Silva/Aguero never took place.

2 pens yesterday would have matched the total Burnley, Swansea and West Brom received over 114 games last season.

I think this is an interesting avenue to pursue but you need to find a way to adjust for possession time in box. You can’t get a penalty if you don’t have the ball in the opponents box, the rate for those teams to get penalties may even out if you adjust for opportunity

Been saying for ages, refereeing is a paid professional so why on earth do we not employ the best from around the world in the best league in the world? In this multi cultural world we now live in why are all our referees English? Perhaps they are less easy to manipulate?

And my ERO is livid at Probert's performance down at Bournemouth yesterday. Probert's never risen above third rate in any games I've seen. I fancy he'll get our next game!
Remember elbows handling 3yards in the box with 2 hands at Everton and him giving the free kick 2 yards outside the clueless or corrupt fucker.

But they are also the only highly paid professionals who are protected form having to go in front of the cameras to explain their decision or perspective on why they gave the decision they did

Your right of course but in penalty stats there are so many variables there seems few patterns to follow besides a slight link between the better sides overall receiving more, but even then you have quite a few outliers.

For example last year Liverpool, who were arguably the most offensive side after ourselves, were awarded 3 pens and conceded 6 compared to ourselves who were awarded 8 and conceded 2. Thats the Liverpool who get all the pen decisions according to some and yet Crystal Palace received 10 pens.

At best you can paint a broader picture and consider if you arrive at the end of the season and believe City should have got 20 pens plus the likelihood is your idea of what constitutes a pen and what the premiership threshold is to give a pen is completely out of kilter when the most any club has received since 2003 is 13, which happened once.
