Mason, as I've said before, should never have been reffing today's game as he's affiliated to the Lancashire FA, as are Burnley. One of the cast-in-stone rules that Mike Riley talked about in 2012 was that a ref cannot officiate for a team from his own county association. That's what he said, which means Mason shouldn't be reffing Burnley, Preston, Blackburn etc.

It's becoming clear that Riley has either completely lost control of PGMOL altogether to external interests or is just taking the piss.

For the same reason that referees in the CL/EL don't referee teams from their own national FA, which is to avoid any potential for bias or conflict of interest. Regardless of whether you think it's a good thing or not, that's the rule.

Taken to its logical conclusion though (some people on here are implying that Taylor gave Sunderland two penalties, because he is a rag), only referees from counties with no teams in the PL should be appointed, as every game influences everyone else's standing. Also, they could just move house, change FA and that would be that. It's a daft rule anyway; referees are either deemed impartial or they're not. If not, they shouldn't have the job.

yes, because then I went digging on why referees such as Mason were reffing rivals of teams from their own association, or who they claimed to be fans of, when the results were influencing the relegation battle.

Sure enough, Bolton were screwed over on the final day, QPR stayed up and we won the league.

This is what I mean about refs cheating - give it on one ground and ignore it on another, all under the guise of arbitration! Bent as a nine bob counterfeiter.

From memory Mason's woeful refereeing that MOTD airbrushed out of existence included:
- Burnley's striker tripped and pulled down Kolarov to allow Grey to run through the gap for a run on goal. YaYa was subsequently pulled up for shoulder to shoulder action;
- Bringing the ball back for a free kick to us when Navas had been put through on goal - a calculated no-advantage-given decision by Mason who waited ages before giving the foul (a classic sign of a referee fixed football match BTW);
- The Kamikaze kick on KDB that sent him flying as he went down the wing - Good job a foot wasn't planted when the kick made contact - Only a yellow card;
- Taking out Silva on the goal line as Silva pulled it back. the ball went back and Silva was sythed down - How the ref failed to see that and not give a penalty is simply beyond me;
- Burnley players continually climbing on the shoulders of City players and not being pulled up for fouls;
- Numerous other "hard tackles" on City players of a standard that when committed by City players were given as fouls.

I was watching Pep early on and he seemed totally bemused that Burnley knocked the ball forward and then fouled the City defender almost every time as he tried to clear it. I cannot remember mason giving even one foul yet Burnely wewre doing it all the game.One occasion the physical challenge in mid air was a knee in Kolarov's groin. Nothing! So much of that before the red card ( which probably was warranted ). I was impressed Kolarov kept his cool

But why is the letter of the Laws of the Game applied by referees who appear ever so eager when they are at the Etihad but are strangely reluctant when they're at The Swamp? If Rojo's tackles are not red cards, then by the same token neither was Fernandinho's. We know what the Laws of the Game stipulate and sanction. Why are they not applied by all referees, all of the time?

I thought Kolarov was brilliant today.
Incidentally I think we found the basis of a formation in the second half that is pretty solid and effective. With an extra man (Stones) on the pitch in a DM passing role and Sane as a wing back I think it could be very solid and effective.

Sick of hearing we need video help. It will be the same retired twats making the same ultimate decisions and legitiming them. It will make no difference on most decisions .

What needs to happen is miced up refa and officials and refs made to answer to fan from each club after the game on a radio/tv interview.
