But it has been possible to cover it up.
It wouldn't be possible to cover it up if someone effectively grassed them up for match fixing, as the police would get involved, along with others.

I've posted this before, but I think it is relevant in this case.
In speaking to Sky Sports News at the beginning of the season Richard Scudamore said;
"Without being disrespectful to any club, we have a strategic plan at the Premier League and the strategic plan says putting a new name on the trophy in every six-year period.
"That doesn't mean we don't want any team to win it. It just means we would rather see some sort of rotation, for all neutrals in the game (what Leicester achieved) was a big moment."

I think most fans would like to know just exactly what this "strategic plan" is?
Here's me thinking it was 11 v 11 on the pitch, 20 teams, all play each other home and away. Most points at the end of the season wins.
Agree and find that more of a problem than Scudamore's United comments. .
The fuss over the United comments seems OTT. He was specifically asked what impact the demise of the rags had on the PL brand:
"It's a double-edged sword. When your most popular club isn't doing as well, that costs you interest and audience in some places. There are lots of fans around the world who wish Manchester United were winning it again. But you have to balance that off against, generally, we're in the business of putting on a competition and competition means people can compete."

I don't see what's wrong with that. This year they're trying to make sure that United can compete.
I understand this to be a euphemism for blatant leg-ups at crucial times in games - dives not cautioned, tackles not sanctioned and video referencing swept under the carpet!

At 1-0 down today, Swansea were denied a nailed on penalty v Arsenal. In fact the Swans player received a yellow card.

You wait till tomorrow. If the rags get beat by the dippers they could be 6 points behind us. No way the ref won't be used to try and stop that. I'm prepared a seriously bent performance.Those two games proved to me that we're at the sharp end of the Premier League's campaign to restore the equilibrium that we disturbed when we "broke" the Sky 4. It's a pretty passive bunch where I stand in 116, but I've never known such discontent during a match and such vitriol thrown at the referee's. It was like we all suddenly realised that this ain't ineptitude any more, it's something far darker. I was so enraged when Mason was stood over Merlin right in front of us, literally sneering at him and telling him to get up, I nearly went on the pitch to confront/twat/shoot (delete as appropriate) the cnut. The look on his face said it all to me. He was lapping up the dogs abuse he was getting, there was no indication on his face that he thought he might've fucked that decision up...it was job done as far as he was concerned, with compliments of the season ringing through his ear-piece..
The refereeing has simply sucked all the joy out of our home games, under the instructions of the establishment. They have obviously targeted our home games thinking the away games will look after themselves in this league. Fuck up Citys home games and job done. They are towing the line and the Gill/PGMOL instructions are being followed to the letter.
Dirty bastards the lot of 'em, which will make winning the league so much sweeter this year.
