Referees' Performances | 2025/26

The standard of refereeing is truly appalling and imo has not improved one iota.

Some of the decisions, and their impact on results this season, are almost unbelievable.

The interpretation of rules & the inconsistencies of application is utterly incomprehensible unless corruption is at play.

Yesterday Attwell was incompetently, inconsistently shocking but just managed to manipulate away from anything too obvious or controversial.

PGMOL are not fit for purpose and its incomprehensible to me that a multi billion business tolerates such a sub standard body !!
They don't tolerate it they they demand it for certain teams. If somebody was that bad at their job they'd be sacked, so they're obviously pissing in the same pot to allow it to go, City's problem is that we don't complain enough, or call the ref out in the interviews afterwards, Ferguson would've demanded they never ref them again.

Just a general question ….. All fans of all clubs think the ref is biased against them, but we know having seen these cunts week in week out exhibit a subtle bias against us that something’s amiss with the way our games are reffed.

Is this down to unconscious bias ?These refs have grown up exposed to a football media world where little old City knew their place and the glorious red shirted heroes of the rags dippers and gooners were the good guys.

Everyone likes a winner, refs are no different. Will the refs in 10, 20, 30 years time have that same unconscious bias towards us now that we’re serial winners and part of the establishment and they’ve grown up associating City with success.
Referees are bound to be influenced by the negative press City have been getting and I think this affects their decision making. You only have to look at the negativity towards City on the ratetheref website to see this negativity within the lower ranks of the refereeing community. One or two referee’s go beyond this and from some of the decisions I have seen lead me to believe that they are consciously anti-City. For the majority I think there is some subconscious bias fed by the media.

We had a goal ruled out at Anfield a few years ago for a much softer alleged foul. IIRC it was Foden and would have put us up 1-0 in the 2H. It was disallowed and Liverpool scored shortly after (the one where Salah skinned Cancelo on the half way line).
That 'foul' was on the halfway line.

Alty reffed that one, letting everything go so basically allowing them to kick fuck out of us again with the knowledge that VAR would cover his back in everything it needed to.

No, thats what it looks like if you slow it down. what actually happened was Nico won a 50/50 and played the ball where as Calafiori missed the ball sliding into Nico. Clear foul.
They only gave the goal to avoid the risk of Arteta spontaneously combusting on the touchline if it had been disallowed . That man is a lunatic .

On a wider point here's a question . Is it in a teams' best interest for the manager to go apeshit/ full Mourinho in the post match presser about the " poor" decisions by the refs or VAR . Pep tends to avoid specifics but some managers go full in . All teams need to feel hard done by and defended by their manager but how sustainable is it when you constantly blame the ref/ the length of the grass ? Long term does the manager end up a paranoid , gibbering wreck ?

Not sure if it was him or someone else, but one of ours (Doku I think) was fouled three times (shirt pulls) by the same player in about 20 yards, the yellow was shown when he finally went down, attwell then indicated a shirt pull, and pointed to all three fouls.

I remarked to my lad, three consecutive, seperate fouls, two of which our player shrugged off, and the final one he went down from, but only 1 yellow card.
Apparently a yellow card is only now issued if a pull back stops an attack,so by being honest and keeping going you are doing the offender a favour.

I always repeated ad nauseam that David Silva had to be fouled three times in fifteen seconds before the Whistling Wanker 'realised' that he was the official with the whistle and we got the free!

Generally expect a ref to be a homer, and it usually shows with throw ins, but their right back used a towel on his first, this has been banned, trivial yeah, but they also won a corner from an off side position, and the ref repeatedly ignored Doku getting fouled again, which got Pep booked, took Pep a long time to realize our wingers can not play with a fat slob taking them out

6 refs support Liverpool

La Liga had the same problem in the 90s with Real Madrid
Darren England is definitely one of them.
Noticed the last league title battle we had against the dippers, I lost count of how many times he was on VAR for their games that season.
Saturday only playing the 3 mins injury time proved he was shit scared of Everton equalising like they did in April.
He made sure that wasn't going to happen, and kept himself in Slots good books.
He wouldn't want baldy 'holding him responsible if they didn't win the league' like Michael Oliver had to endure

I have a question ? How can the Premier League facilitate fairly in our games when we clearly have won many legal battles against them, The answer is they can't, it's clearly on show with the match officials.

I think it's cheating at the highest order in the game; they don't even wear a mask or try to hide it now, Manchester City have a major problem on their hands. I don't think it can be just brushed under the carpet this time. Somebody from the club has to stand up and call them out and bring up the question

They are taking the piss and just waving away any call for a foul is dangerous for us with players getting battered every game, Doku took a hell of a beating yesterday and got kicked out of the game, even when Pep reacted to a bad tackle from behind on Doku, he got a yellow card haha, Arteta was at it all game waving his hands and moaning about the referee not giving them a free kick

So again, My Question is how does Manchester City get a fair crack at the whip

We need to be cleared first, I feel. Once we are, we have got the moral high ground and can really ram it home.

Once we are cleared, we must call for a no-confidence vote on the rules with Premier League and its members and demand changes, Heads should roll and somebody from Manchester City should have a major role on the board

Nothing to see here, just a clear handball by Salah, no reason to rule the goal out apparently...
