Monologue or Contract?

A salesman's puff.

Reasonable people don't rely on promises made by Nigel Farage. Unfortunately many of the public are not reasonable people.

puffing

Puffing is a term in commercial law which means to convey an overstated belief about some good or service to a prospective buyer with the goal of making a sale of that good or service. This concept is distinct from fraud, in which someone makes a factual misrepresentation intending for another party to rely on that misrepresentation, who then does reasonably rely on it and suffers resulting harm. Puffery, unlike fraud, is characterized by the idea that no puffing statements could be reasonably relied upon because they are statements of opinion rather than fact. Puffing statements typically do not give rise to express warranty actions, although if even one such statement goes too far beyond the boundaries of belief, that then could serve as the basis for an action on the express warranty or fall under the implied warranty of fitness for the good or service sold.

A campaigner for Nigel Farage has told voters that illegal migrants should be used for army “target practice” and that mosques should be turned into pubs.
In the latest scandal to hit Reform UK, undercover reporters from Channel 4 recorded an activist in Clacton advocating shooting people arriving by boat and describing Rishi Sunak as a “f***ing P***”.
They also filmed a senior aide to the Reform leader putting forward a vision for the party in government, saying “our police officers will be paramilitaries” and that “we’re going to bring back the noose”.
Farage said those identified “will no longer be with the campaign” and described the comments as “appalling”.
He said: “These exchanges bear no relation to my own views, those of the vast

Is anyone really surprised?

I'd be more surprised if all their candidates proved to be reasonably decent human beings.

We have allowed a vile poison into our politics. Brexit was not, on the surface, about racism and fascism, but its success empowered people with these views and made them feel safe to express them. And a fair minority of our people agree with this shit. That's the truth.
