False equivalency.
There is a door nobody has walked through. We don't know what is on the other side but legend has it there is nothing behind the door. The religious man never tests the door and never finds out. The atheist has a look outside the door and assesses the options before opening it and seeing what's inside. He takes pictures. The religious man denies the evidence. He denies the door even exists.
I don't much care whether this debate is framed in atheistic, scientific, religious, poetic and/or artistic terms. They are just different 'languages' - for me, at least. What I am more interested in is the nature of 'the door.' Again, for me, in each of these fields I find that the door is one of our own misperceptions/relative misunderstandings. In each case - in each field - as we are willing to let go of these misperceptions we 'break on through to the other side' - passing through the door to a new room of understanding. As I see it, each of these paths will eventually lead to the same place but their outer appearances may well appear to be wildly different along this journey.
