Religion

False equivalency.

There is a door nobody has walked through. We don't know what is on the other side but legend has it there is nothing behind the door. The religious man never tests the door and never finds out. The atheist has a look outside the door and assesses the options before opening it and seeing what's inside. He takes pictures. The religious man denies the evidence. He denies the door even exists.

I don't much care whether this debate is framed in atheistic, scientific, religious, poetic and/or artistic terms. They are just different 'languages' - for me, at least. What I am more interested in is the nature of 'the door.' Again, for me, in each of these fields I find that the door is one of our own misperceptions/relative misunderstandings. In each case - in each field - as we are willing to let go of these misperceptions we 'break on through to the other side' - passing through the door to a new room of understanding. As I see it, each of these paths will eventually lead to the same place but their outer appearances may well appear to be wildly different along this journey.

what place?

what place?
Unity?
ps are you willing to give something to this conversation that is more than just 'oh, you are speaking in riddles?' Like, where are you really coming from beyond just 'oh I was involved with catholic and CofE stuff.'

Be easier if you just said you have a personal coping structure that makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
Then again that might just be a reflection of how you deal with life, much more so than what I experience? Hey, ho...each to their own right, yoda?

No I have no need for a coping mechanism. I don’t need the crutch of knowing people I’ve lost are waiting for me or that I’ll live on forever. I’m at one with my mortality. I’m also happy that I don’t need the threat of eternal damnation to be a good person.

This is like a prisoner getting angry at the 'stupid idea' that anyone could possibly know freedom outside of the prison. I mean the prisoner knows for sure that they are the best informed and most intelligent person around, right - and yet they don't experience this freedom, so therefore how could it possibly exist?!?!? Then again, perhaps it is wisest to convince oneself that the prison is actually one's home, gradually forgetting any notions of freedom, settling for bread and water whilst decreeing that feasts are but fantasises for the deluded. Sounds great.
Yeah, right.

erm, neither do I? By the way - have you ever heard of the notion of dakini? Sometimes this is what is called a 'kingmaker' - in simple terms this might be said to be a woman who
helps a man come to know a state of 'inner sage, outer king.' Just curious....
