No, it was 9:0 to us at the time, but our first goal did come against the run of play from memory! The way I am remembering the day, the penalty made it 1-1 after Neil McNab opener.

Maybe so but you are dealing with some FOCs on here that don't know what day it is nevermind the bloody year this happened ;-)Match was 07/11/87 so it was 36 years ago today not 37?
I believe old Bernard was fuming that he had to give 3 balls away, and I'm not joking.
Oh, I remember that interview! I actually think the current managers of Arsenal and Liverpool must have read the 'Malcolm Macdonald guide book on how to conduct post match interviews'What a day. Nowt much happening till the first. Macdonald had PTSD after the match.
The club kept the match ball and gave each of the players who scored a hat-trick a ball each.I believe old Bernard was fuming that he had to give 3 balls away, and I'm not joking.
Used to go in the social club after games, that day someone I knew didn't stop moaning about the 'dodgy penalty'!!!Strangely enough, I also had it in mind that the game had been at 1-1 at some point rather than 9-0.
I was in the Main Stand as usual, where we regulars still managed to moan for most of the game.
It should have been 11. Swales out!
Good old Bernard ;-)The club kept the match ball and gave each of the players who scored a hat-trick a ball each.
Ken Barnes later gave the match ball up as a raffle prize at evening fundraiser for a blue he went on to work for which I'm fortunate enough to own also. Bernard was not happy as he lost four match balls in one afternoon !!!
Originally the MOTM was given the match ball which was Paul Simpson but he had to make do with a bottle of champagne instead as a fifth ball was refused to be given away.
Ditto. Only time I've bin to York with City is stopping off for " a few pints"...on way back from st James and roker park back in the day.Me too, but not at York away.
I watched the game from that little stand between the main stand and North.. family stand I think it...I was still watching City on my own travelling up from Notts on the cheap transpeak bus ,£2.50 ,but took nearly 4 effing hours to get there. I wrote to Frank Horrocks at the old supporters club at Maine Road and he responded on Club headed paper with a letter I still have, and very kindly put an ad in the Match day programme...Anita Britton wrote me a letter and I joined the leicestervbnd rugby branch,(she was branch secretaty) very soon after. Was it something like ' Re mem, mem, Remember when ,when, City scored 10' we used to sing, or something like that!?
What memories!! 'udders' were well on top at the start from memory. Mcnab scored with our first attack and the we couldn't stop scoring!3 hatricks, 3 different players.
When that 10th went in there were good celebrations on the Kippax. Quite possibly the only time we will get to see City hit double figures (though we did go very close against Burton Albion a while back).
The crowd was quite small as has been pointed out which was standard for the time(I knew someone who chose not to go as he thought it would be a dull goalless draw, think he regretted that!)
Obviously the actions of Liverpool fans at Heysel didn't help the general perception of foitball fans with English teams being banned from Europe. The country was in a bit of a state financially/politically (sounds familiar!) . However ,a lot of people were also put off going to football due to violence still being fairly commonplace and the fact that it seemed that pretty much ALL football fans were seen as wild animals and needed to be caged!!!
Inspite of all that, so pleased I made the effort that day....I certainly had some 'classic' days out/piss ups watching us but this is one of the few actual games that could be described as a 'classic' from those days!
I went to that too. My first ever fa cup match.stood on the open away terrace. Best meat pie I'd ever tasted.also went back for the 2nd replay which we won 3nil in the pouring rain...I wisely dodged the 1st replay a dull nil nil draw at Maine Road.Great score, shit attendance.
Remember having banter outside at the back of the Kippax with the Huddersfield lads at half time. I'm sure we were 4-0 up at the time and the scruffy cnuts thought they'd come back in the 2nd half.
Set it up nicely for the cup tie over at theirs a few weeks later, naughty
It was a memorable opening goal as not only did McNab score it, but I`m certain it came from his left foot ??No, it was 9:0 to us at the time, but our first goal did come against the run of play from memory!
Thanks! Just edited it lolMatch was 07/11/87 so it was 36 years ago today not 37?
Last min equaliser in the 2-2 cup tie is among the top 5 most berserk celebrations everI went to that too. My first ever fa cup match.stood on the open away terrace. Best meat pie I'd ever tasted.also went back for the 2nd replay which we won 3nil in the pouring rain...I wisely dodged the 1st replay a dull nil nil draw at Maine Road.
The 'entertainment' straight after the game was probably as tasty as your pie.I went to that too. My first ever fa cup match.stood on the open away terrace. Best meat pie I'd ever tasted.also went back for the 2nd replay which we won 3nil in the pouring rain...I wisely dodged the 1st replay a dull nil nil draw at Maine Road.
Just under 20,000 I recallAbout 17,000 I seem to remember. Which was about standard. for a run of the mill home game of that time.
It would have to be a big game to break 20,000 and the less popular, midweek one’s especially were more likely in the 15,000 region.
Not many point whores knocking about back then.
