I dont think he was underated i have friends who support other clubs and are of the same late 50s early 60s who all say what a wonderful player he was.
I do...
I'm not disputing that they said that he was a wonderful player as it's totally true most at the time might've even thought it, with his ability though he's truly underrated in every sense of the word and very quickly becoming a forgotten man.
One that hardly anyone will remember in a couple generations and he'd probably really like that such was his humble nature, he's better than both Lampard and Gerrard put together ability wise for me but goes without the true praise he deserves.
Despite playing in an even deeper role and helping out way more defensively Bell had a better goals to game ratio than Frank Lampard at the age of his injury, as a YouTube documentary earlier in the thread mentions in the that video created celebrating Colin 'The King' Bell's career.
It was very well made and in my opinion CityTV should've immediately decided to make a complete remake of that video, with added testimonies of more high profile former footballers who played with and against him across the country.
Bell is very much overlooked and underappreciated because of Bobby Charlton and the World Cup win that came just before him, then because of the massive overinflated hype the likes of Bryan Robson and Glenn Hoddle and even later players received.
Robson the rag wasn't a patch on Bell in the slightest in any area of his game despite being a media darling with his captain marvel moniker, the likes of him and Hoddle the latter admittedly due to his technical ability, they're far more well remembered than Colin 'The King' Bell by neutrals across the board.
Sir Tom Finney once said Colin Bell was as good as anything he's ever seen, honestly I can't think of any higher praise than that.
He should be recognised far more thoroughly than he is, as not just possibly our greatest ever player but an all time great of English football.
He is one of England's greatest ever talents without question and definitely very underrated.
