Remembering Colin Bell

Crazy its been 3 years, times flown by so fast.

When Kev got off the bench last week to that roar i had a couple of tears thinking of Colin. We have had some wonderful outstanding players at this club in the past 15 years but Colin was my first. Stood out a mile how good he was. Cheers Colin.

Genuinely think KDB will get the same reception for coming off the bench when he does :-)

As you can see by my username King Colin was my hero , I'm 58yrs had my first season ticket aged 7 in North stand with my grandad so got to see him but didn't really appreciate how good he was. I was there on his comeback game when everyone to a man/ boy in my case stood to applaud him coming on from the bench.
That was some moment.

The King recieved a reception I doubt will ever be matched but what sticks in my mind most was the whisper that started from the tunnel in the Main stand and eventually wrapped around the ground. I had never heard anything like that before or since.
It was a privilege to be there that day and still brings a tear to my eye especially on days like today. RIP King Colin.

They'll only ever be one King and he played on a green field called Maine Road.

Those of us who attended the game v Newcastle on Boxing Day 1977 will never forget the sheer outpouring of emotion when Colin replaced Paul Power at half time. However he made an initial return from injury towards the end of the 75-76 season.
He started against Derby in a 4-3 win, missed the game at Newcastle, scored the opening goal in our 2-1 defeat at Elland Road when we all thought he was back for good, started against Liverpool and Arsenal at home and missed the pitiful capitulation at the swamp in the final game of the season.

Still in my opinion the best player ever to wear our shirt , i did waiver when Merlin was weaving his magic but the deciding factor was , i actually think Colin would not look out of place in the modern game , he would be a superstar. Merlin would not have survived in the 60's , 70's ,he would have been kicked off the park , not a slight on Merlin a divine footballer , just different era's and Colin would have handled any fitness , tactics , skills of the modern game.

I strongly doubt it KDBs brilliant but Colin was simply the best, couple that to our fan base is vastly different and those of us who were there that day are mostly in our 60s now. :-( RIP the King you'll never be forgotten.

Almost impossible to compare players from different era's as the elements of the game & environment change radically.

However, Colin Bell is one player who would've transcended the ages and would've been perfect for a Pep team...2 feet, good in the air, 15 goals EVERY year tackler, remarkable stamina and power, modest team player.

An outstanding player & model professional.

The greatest so far for City.

I think he could have played in every position. In some games he did.
Half way up a hill one day about 6 years ago, a fellow walker came along and spotted my old City shirt.
”Nijinski” he said immediately. Gladdened my heart that an Evertonian (as it turned out) remembered Colin so fondly.
