Rewriting history

Just publish in the original and re-written forms and let people decide which they prefer.
It's called freedom of choice, which, apparently is how a democracy works.

There's 300,000,000 of the original books out there in the world, you don't even need to keep printing them for people to make the choice.

It’s all a publicity stunt to generate outrage and sell books, and you’ve fallen for it.

With the James Bond stuff 100%.

There's literally no other reason to announce you're removing racial slurs etc. from the books in a new edition the week after Dahl's books being edited dominates the news.

Is there a demand for this sort of thing? I've never heard anyone in the pub demanding books are rewritten

It's all driven by demand.

Not people literally carrying pickets demanding books are rewritten, but falling demand to buy outdated books that contain stuff parents don't like when they read it to their kids.

Is it Dambusters where the dog is called n***** ? There are times when it is right to blank words out as they now do with that film, but you can go too far the other way. I heard a song on Radio 1 the other day, 'I just killed my ex' they bleeped out the word killed !.
Bleeding heart puss

Dahl was a weird one, changing fat to enormous. As if no one will be offended by that.

"That dress makes you look enormous."
"Thanks love, especially for not calling me fat."

Mind you, one of my mates has a rule for his kids in his house, the word fat is banned as its derogatory. Next party..."hey Jay, is this full FAT coke?"

Shakespeare won't get touched. He invented hundreds of words.

As a previous poster said...who is asking for these changes?
Being called enormous is surely worse than being called fat?
