Richard Dunne retires

Never forget the siege at Old Trafford where somehow he kept the rags at bay in an amazing performance in a 0-0 draw, that day he literally was here there and every fucking where. One of the best CBs we ever had and would have been a great partner for Vinny, in fact his partnership with Distin was one of the best we had and he's probably gutted that he isnt at the club now

I was working near his house and the postman let his dogs out so I got them in for his wife he was training.
It's down to him now!

Retired? I thought he'd done that in a match at times! Lol. Only jesting.

My main memory of dunne is my dad's voice after one of his many mistakes 'not fucking dunne again'

Dunne for me could be as clumsy as a carry on film or as good as Maldini at times. His effort though was unquestionable and once he had sorted his personal problems out he was a fantastic pro. Great pro for City and great character. 4 poty awards shows I think the company he played in wasn't great. But I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoyed the drama of that era and dunne was part of that. Good luck in the future pal.

I am a new member here, but a long time city fan. I think the official club website is fantastic, probably the best club website in football. However, I think there is a massive oversight in the current A to Z series. The most recent release in the series is the letter D, and they have not included Richard Dunne. I know Gary Cook said he "doesn’t roll off the tongue in Beijing", but he spent nearly a decade here, captained the side for a number of years, turned down more money from other clubs to stay at City, and won player of the year 4 years in a row. Unless they are planning on including him later in the series (e.g. H for Honey Monster) I think this is an absolute disgrace.

Well said, BBB.

Any City history that doesn't include Richard Dunne isn't worth reading, IMHO.

Good luck to the Dunnie Monster. My favourite player from about 2005-2008 or so. The game that stands out for me was I think in the 07/08 season at home versus Liverpool I think. The game ended 0-0 and he was just immense, truly every-fucking-where in that match. Great servant for the club.

He was unreal in that game. I'm sure Torres was in the form of his life and dunney kept up with him all game, Torres never got a sniff. Dunney was surprisingly quick, I'd often hear people say he's slow, but I've seen him keep up with some very quick players.

Edit - just seen above that it was that game where he bullied Torres.

My favourite memory, was him kicking the ball into the sky against someone (arsenal I think) at home, he just didn't want the ball any more, and it was understandable on the night, a funny moment.

He was "great" for us, in often very average times, but he epitomised being a City player at the time, great effort, often not enough skill, but gave all he could.

Hope he has a great retirement from being a player, and that football doesn't lose him.
He had the odd game when he could show some skill .
Didn't Richard Dunne also play as a right back for us under Kevin Keegan .
I remember the away game at Turf Moor in 2001 .
Dunne was our best player that night .

He played regularly at right-back during his early days at the club, including the last Maine Road derby, IIRC.

One of my all time favourite players. He sort of grew up with the club and with me, from his early partying days to settling down and being a family man. Never seemed to be any problems with him, always gave 100% and all those POTY awards shows how he was thought of. I would have liked to see him play alongside Vinny and also see him have a few more games with Kolo Toure but he didn't really get the chance. If I remember correctly we treated him a bit shabbily when he left, Gary Cook saying "We needed the money" and also saying he wasn't a big enough name.

Good luck Richard.

Whilst I applaud the loyalty to the guy he was a total liability after Distin left and a couple of stats prove this

Most Premiership Own Goals - Dunney at Number 1 with 10!
http://www.worldfootball.net/alltime_goalgetter/eng-premier-league/eigentore/1/

Most Premiership Red Cards - Dunney again at Number 1 with 8! (tied with Duncan Ferguson and Patrick Viera)

So I wish him well as a person but a great footballer he was not....

Loved Dunneninho and the era he played in with us. Earned a few quid off his goals too.

He laid his heart and body on the line for us and for that he will always have my respect. Good luck Dunney.

I feel he has an affection for City that many players who leave our club, for whatever reasons they are, don't. Good luck Dunnie. Whatever your aspirations are. And Shawn Wright Phillips as well.
