Richard Dunne.

all the 'fans' on here who slate him should be ashamed after all the top games he's had for us over the years.

Not really. Cos he played well in the past should not mean he's above criticism. The fact of the matter is he's been an absolute liability all season, bar about a 5 game run at one point. I used to say Dunney was a wealthy mans titus bramble, on this seasons form bramble is a rich mans richard dunne
constructive criticism yeah.

the slating he gets off some people on here no.

Totally agree but I'd love him to stay and be a squad player and why not? He's been at the club for many years and can still do a great job for us. Plus at his age I think he would like to play less games but still be part of a succesful (I hope) team in the near future?

Will be interesting to see who is captain next year though. I guess that decesion will be made after we've signed the majority of our new recruits.

Stephen Ireland would be my choice- great player and from our academy!

I'm not slating him and I hope that my origional post does not come accross in that manner.

You state that he has had great games over the years and that is correct. But at the end of the day we're in an excellent position where we can purchase centre halves of superior quality with money being no object and Richard has made quite a few errors this season.

I just feel that he is a lower mid-table centre half who would be better suited to a team like Sunderland. I would hope that given the direction we want to head and what we want to achieve he is not deemed good enough from a selfish point of view, not taking into consideration his length of service.

The way I think of it is that if he was not a Manchester City player and you could have the choice of Lescott (for example) or Dunne then after the previous season who would you take?

We need aerial threat from set pieces and I cannot remember the last time Dunne had the same threat that Vidbitch seems to have consistently from free-kicks and corners. Lescott brings this and so will many superior talented centre halves who we could potentially bring in.

I love him, I am grateful for the performances he has produced previously but the time has come to move on. He was great at the time for our ambitions but we've moved that up a level and he hasn't.

I respect your opinion Blue Dallas but I'm afraid that my head rules my heart on this one.

I think we have to look at City as if we were a Top 4 club (because that's the aim). And so, for any current player on the squad, I think that the relevant or 'litmus test' question is - "Would a Top 4 club have this player play for them?"

If the answer is no, then we have to find a better player. Its just business.

Richard Dunne would not make a good squad player. Good squad players should be steady and dependant and not prone to mistakes.

i didnt say you slated him

but a lot do on here. unfairly.

i still think he'll be good for us for 2 more seasons, but i also think we need maybe 2 more C.B. for the squad.

Would you start Dunne next season?

Dunne will not start next season, it doesn't make footballing sense after the season he had, Hughes knows (I hope) that we need to reinforce key areas and CB is top of the list - Dunne is accident prone and Richards' form has been far too sketchy. Surely Ned is the only one assured of a starting place come August?

Just a thought but if we do sell Dunnie I think he should get a testimonial anyway to show our appreciation for what he's done for us over the years. I don't think there are any official rules about when a testimonial takes place and with Thomas Cook no longer sponsoring us how about having what would have been the Thomas Cook Trophy game as his testimonial?

I wonder what odds you would get on him scoring an OG on his testimonial :)
