dante here who helped richard with the book.
cardiff in the cup is a mistake on my part...and i went to the game ! but i worked through the night a lot of time to complete it on time and even after proof reading i must have missed that. and i am stickler for facts. so bit fed up there.
other than that we are both very happy with the book. it works like this. a footballer plays so many games not all stand out. i watched richard throughout his career. i am there to jog his memory on stuff and bring out his thoughts. ie the derby when we were 2 up against utd and lost 3-2 what did horton say at half time? did the players actually believe they could go.on.and win? thats my input to bring out his memories of specific incidents.
the vast vast majority of the stuff in there will be his recollection. other stuff for example we mention how we're not really here started, we've added it in because it will be of interest to people. especially newer fans who weren't around when it started.
not only does edgy open out a lot about stuff behind the scenes and what he thought of some of the other players in the dressing room but his career was against the backdrop of City being a yoyo club. that's why we mention he played under so many managers under so many chairmen, so many divisions, so many promotions and relegations. he lived through that and so did we.
and playing against utd down the kippax side he could certainly feel the crowd. edgy has always had plenty of blue mates who would constantly tell him how the fans felt in those days.
he makes it clear some of the players tried some of them perhaps didnt try hard enough. and the fans felt the players werent trying. to get that admission from.a player at that time i think is important.
edgy also gets fed up like the rest of us with the media laying into City and makes note of the big attendances he played in front even in the 3rd tier.
it may.not be everyones cup.of tea but sales are going well already and the feedback we're getting is really positive.
Some fair points there Dante. But, and for me this is a huge thing - there's clearly a lot of it which seems to come from your recollections, not Edgy's. I followed City through thin and thinner during the years mentioned in the book and some of the things you've written are stretching things to put it mildly (Guvnors singing "We're not really here" - that's so patently nonsense. I know you go on to say that wasn't the true genesis of the song, but padding it out with stuff like that - not for me thanks.)
I know it's hard meeting deadlines, but some of the following are just factually incorrect:
Easter Bloc records? Eastern Bloc I know, but Easter Bloc? .
Paul Walsh scoring away at QPR - "the keeper's clearance went straight to him but he kept his composure and scored" - the keeper blasted the ball against him, he knew nothing about it as it sailed back into the net. Or are we thinking of different goals?
Kinkladze scoring against Villa and "half the North Stand ran on the pitch". Really? I was in the North Stand that day.
One nil away win at Wrexham - "scrappy goal from Wiekens" - I remember him burying a header straight from a corner. What do you remember?
Burnley 5-0 win, "Nash saved a pen when it was still 0-0" - City were already one up - Wanchope scored in 1st/2nd min. Their pen came after this.
I'm happy to be corrected if my memory isn't right.
