I think you have mis understood. It is actually Music Of Black Origin awards, as in a catch all term for "Urban" music or whatever else you want to call it. If it was 30 years ago it would be called the Soul awards or something, but the fact is today Soul as a genre doesn't encapsulate newer musical styles like Hip Hop, UK Grime etc.Robinho's Subbuteo said:Totally agree with you.
Although, there are double standards everywhere you look these days. Take racism ... there are some music awards called the MOBO Awards - Music Of Black Orientation Awards - can you IMAGINE the uproar if there was a MOWO Awards - Music of White Orientation. Double standards at its highest.
White people are not excluded from being nominated or winning awards, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Cullum have won awards in the past and Katy B will no doubt win a lot of awards at the next event. I understand people being offended by the name of the awards, but the fact remains the Soul, Blues, R&B, Hip Hop Grime, etc have all originated in black communities.
It probably not the best name they could use as some people are offended by the name, but the awards themselves are in no way discriminatory against non black people! If you are an artist in any of the genres above you can win an award no matter what the colour of your skin
