Rik Mayall

Fucking hell, I clicked on this expecting the usual argument of 'he's shit' 'no he isn't. I certainly wasn't expecting that.
I liked him in The New Statesman and his cameos in Blackadder.
Such a waste.

Absolutely gutted Rik Mayall has died

The two greatest alternative comedy programmes of the early 80's have both lost one of their stars this year now after Mel Smith died earlier

The Young Ones were a bit before my time but I thought Bottom was brilliant.

I have just done a couple of YouTube searches - 'The New Statesman A B'stard Exposed' is well worth a look

Punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say, "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say, "Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!"

And then one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say, "Other kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems?"

Gutted. Watch Bottom at least twice a year. It was the first comedy that appealed to me being a teen at the time. Can't believe it :-(

I still know A Fistfull Of Travellers Cheques off by heart to this day, from the Dangerous Brothers to the Bombadier adverts, he was excellent at what he did, RIP.

Brilliant comedian. I am genuinely upset about his death. Sad news indeed
