Rio Olympics

Arguably the best British sporting achievement there has been, hoping we continue to fund our sports/athletes and continue to show our talents across a range of sports. It's a long shot but it'd be great if we could catch the USA on golds/medals one day.

That would take many generations with the odds stacked hugely against us. The US attitude to sport along with a larger pool of people to draw from makes them an almost unstoppable force. Really the only country likely to topple that, because they can compete on both, is China; Just depends how serious they are about knocking them off their perch.

That shouldn't and doesn't in any way diminish our herculean achievement these games. There will always be tiny countries picking up the odd gold, but for us to come second with the consistency we've shown across such a range of disciplines is unreal.

First time every a host country has improved its medal tally at the following games too. Team GB has done everyone proud.

Now come on Joe Joyce!

Oh I know it's a long long shot. Hoping more than anything that we don't become comfortable with achieving what we have (which is phenomenal) and instead continue to kick on. China will probably be back in Tokyo 2020 but our aim should be to try and keep 2nd spot now (although against China that will be difficult) or at least keep improving our medal count.

Still a superb achievement in Rio, never thought i'd see the day we were doing this well, just 12 years ago in Athens I remember thinking we're not that good.
