Over a year ago, Clegg predicted this would happen; Lord Snooty said it wouldn't.

Despite having over a year to plan for it, Clegg's been in charge for the last couple of days and hasn't had a clue what to do!

Luckily, Snooty's finally decided to cut short his jolly and fly back to sort it all out - presumably in a World War I biplane, judging by the time it's taking him.

My guess is he'll encourage everyone to man up and form their own police forces in a do-if-for-nowt-Big-Society kind of a way...
Fuck off and take your political bullshit with you, your opportunistic little shit.

This isn't about politics, it is about theft and looting and surely even you, with your myopic agenda can see that. Failing that, you'd just be a **** for trying to score points to suit an agenda.

Send in the army minus live ammo. We can't have the armed forces shooting people on the streets.

The army would add man power, give them tear gas, water canons and rubber bullets.

This is madness.

It would be a necessary show of force. Which is what is required to stop this escalating out of control.

Too late.

-- Mon Aug 08, 2011 11:24 pm --

Looking in a mirror are you?

Re: Riot in Tottenham (continued)

Yeah lets start shooting them.. isn't that why the whole thing started!?

Re: Riot in Tottenham (continued)

Its just gone mad in London. I dont know why it spread to Birmingham its just madness. The goverment will have to react to this big time. I dont know how many visitors go to London but for those on holiday to see some of this shit happening is just not on.
I think the army will be on the streets of London come tomorrow to help the police and to hopefully put a stop to all of this shit. The police cant cope with this all on there own and they need help to sort this out. You got to feel sorry for the shop owners who have now lost there business due to these fuckers. It doesnt look good for the UK if this continues any longer.

I think it's very unfair to turn this into a political point scoring game, the people out there have most likely never voted, both because they can't be arsed, but more so because they're not even old enough.

Really!? The nation's capital's in flames and he's arsing about in a luxury villa in Tuscany!

Words. Fail. Me.

Re: Riot in Tottenham (continued)

Not in a chilled mood Liam. This also affects my livelihood and my clients and the like.

Playing politics to score points is about as low as one can get on here.

Re: Riot in Tottenham (continued)

Theses riots have zero to do with politics, and anyone who thinks any different is living in cuckoo land.

It's just pure copycat opportunism, there's no political agenda, just lowlifes out on the thieve and causing as much damage as possible.

And btw, I'm no Tory, can't stand the fuckers, but I can see what's happening for what it is.

After saying that, the authorities reaction comes across has being weak and shambolic to say the least.

Re: Riot in Tottenham (continued)

Because the police are too afraid of the consequences of going in hard
I like your posts Ronnie, but this statement is wrong. The HRA is a wonderful piece of legislation and in no way hampers the police's rights to enforce the law fully in circumstances such as this.
I am happy to be corrected. Please explain. If a copper biffs one of these 'protesters' they will get sued
All the Human Rights Act does is enshrine the European Convention on Human Rights in UK law - although it has applied in this country since 1951.

In terms of Article 11 - Freedom of assembly the Convention says:

1. Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and to freedom of association with others, including the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests.

This Article is further qualified as follows:

2. No restrictions shall be placed on the exercise of these rights other than such as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others. This article shall not prevent the imposition of lawful restrictions on the exercise of these rights by members of the armed forces, of the police or of the administration of the State.

I counted about nine get out clauses there!

There is no way that any rioter would have a leg to stand on in respect of the HRA unless the circumstances were extraordinary - like a rogue copper going on a shooting frenzy.

I see it as an important piece of legislation because it safeguards our rights against the state. Having read your posts I though you'd see that as a good thing;-)
I do agree that the legislation is important - in principal, but you and I both know that the first 15 year old girl who claims she was beaten innit by a narsty copper will have every human rights lawyer crawling all over the place. The law is interpreted wrongly in this country
