If he does end up losing a vote of no confidence, surely it would make sense for the new guy to call an immediate general election.
If the new person stayed as PM for 10 months then lost heavily ad expected, they would be replaced as leader. May as well get the GE loss out of the way and have 5 years as leader to try and win the next one.

It would also make the vote for the next PM candidate not the next PM, which may affect the voting and the campaigns.

I don't think it'll come to a No Confidence vote - the bill will be pulled instead.

It won't happen, Turkeys don't vote for Christmas and all that

The bill with get through and be butchered on subsequent readings so much so it will be pulled because the Tories won't be able to agree on it or just quietly dropped into the long grass never to be seen again
