Rishi Sunak

Reform are doing to Sunak what UKIP did to Cameron. Attracting just enough Tory votes to cause panic and encourage concessions to the barmy right.

My guess is for every vote gained they lose at least one off the other end. Because not all Tories are swivel loons, many are moderate and pro-EU. Especially darn south.

The tail is wagging the dog, rather like Momentum did in the Labour Party. What these people (at both ends) fail to understand is that what is popular among the politically obsessed is not necessarily what is popular among the general population. Most ordinary punters care about trifling things like job security, affordability of rent/mortgages, education of their kids, the cost of food and utilities, and the NHS. I know this stuff is dead boring compared to foreigners popping across in small boats, but it's what moves the bulk of the population.

They need all the Brexit loons wiped out in the GE.

They might then find a "normal" Tory leader with a party that leans into traditional ideology over send the buggers back.

In my dream world they'll be relegated to third party status and laughed out of parliament when Badenoch is voted leader and the batshit policies continue.

"Vote for us and we'll send everyone back!"

I do wonder what has happened to the old style One nation Tories, have they moved to the right with the party or started voting for someone else?

Most likely won't vote but it's the gap between the high 30s % they normally win elections with and the circa 25% they are currently polling.

They deserve to lose and even tory voters accept that.

Eat shit tories .

They don't seem to have put up any sort of fight for their party, you never hear anything from them.

The more moderate elements of the Labour Party stayed and fought for their idea of what the party should be when Corbyn was taking it down a more militant road.

With the exception of Ken Clarke in the House of Lords there doesn't seem to have been any criticism of the current swivelled eyed Brexit loons from Centre of the Party. It seems like they have disappeared without a trace.

It might not seem like a big deal, but it does mean that the Tory Party has no Centre to go back to and if labour mess up our only alternative is even more right-wing populism which is fucking scary.

Back in the depth of Brexit the point was made by me and others that both parties were on the verge of splitting but even though Corbyn and Momentum were in control they didn't ever really have the numbers. On the other hand the tory membership is much smaller and radical. They were mad keen on Brexit but hhat was like a gatewaydrug to other populist BS. The establishment tories were always wary of going down this rd as its ultimately shit. Johnson new this and didn't care. He saw his chance and gave the rabid tory base what they wanted to hear.

To go back on what Johnson started will be incredibly difficult.

I think the Tories have better internal discipline than Labour. That is they don't wash their dirty linen in public. This does not mean they are united - far from it.

The 'One-Nation' Tory MPs exist in large numbers but are not (generally) gobby. They go along with most stuff but have red lines, of which leaving the ECHR is one. They will only kick off if a red line is crossed or threatened. And a lot of their kicking-off is done behind closed doors.

What will be interesting is what the GE does to the political balance of the parliamentary party. I have absolutely no idea about this, I think it's anyone's guess. But after their defeat, there will be a struggle for the future. If some loopy RW fruitloop gets to be the leader (quite possible) they could end up in opposition for a long time. If you recall, it was only when the relatively moderate Cameron became leader that they won power, and even that was in peculiar circumstances. Had the 2008 international crisis not happened, they might not have won even with him.
