Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

The chance he missed in the first half and he was not far wide of the post, Aguero made a movement across the box hoping to take the defender away thereby creating space for Mahrez to get off the shot. However I think it was Stephens who was marking Aguero and instead of following Aguero he picked up Mahrez into the box and Mahrez had to get off the shot between Stephens and another Saints player who was closing down Mahrez and his view of the goal was minimal so he had to bend his shot around the players.

Mahrez had every right to take that shot on.

He should have passed to Sterling who was wide open, completely unmarked in the box and had loads of space to finish from ~8 yards out on his strong foot with the keeper on the wrong side of the goal.

All of our starting XI pass that ball, they all sacrifice their individual glory to give each other easy goals and it's 2-0. Mahrez isn't going to be in our best XI until he learns that.

Are people still blaming everything on him missing a penalty that he was instructed to take? Walker's performance against Palace and Delph's performance against Leicester are bigger reasons as to why we are seven points behind not a penalty that anyone is capable of missing.

Not blaming him for anything but we are stronger when he's on the bench. No ifs or buts about it. Sterling and Sane is our strongest team, Mahrez is still learning how we play, he'll get better, but for Liverpool, he's on the bench.

What was so much harder than Mahrez chance to shoot than Sterling's, on his weak foot, would have been?

Pep obviously sees more in this guy than do most posters. I actually thought he looked classy at times in the first half but don't expect anyone will agree.

He has a sort of "casual arrogant" air that puts people off. Body language and facial expressions mean he never looks all that bovvered. A bit like the stuff that's sometimes levelled at Sane.

Don't get me wrong, he hasn't pulled up any trees. He's just not the complete turd that some are claiming.

Does everything fine apart from his decision making at crucial times and his lack of bottle when going in for a tackle this changes he be great for us.
