So, in your mind, a few games here and there and you should be good to go - OK
Stones, Silva x 2, Zaba, Sane etc etc all beg to differ

Lets just wait and give him a fair crack of the whip before writing him off is all I'm saying

You appear to be confusing people offering genuine opinions on a forum with what the actual outcome will turn out to be. My comments about Mahrez will have no effect on whether he turns out to be a roaring success or one of the biggest flops we have ever signed just as yours will be equally ineffective.

I hope he does turn it around as he plays for us so I want him to contribute to our success. The fact that he cost 60 mill (that's not his fault) is also an issue as if he doesn't make the grade then the club will take a large financial hit thereby impacting on further player recruitment.

The biggest issue I have with him is his lack of work rate as that isn't dependent on form. He appears to be a lazy player and that doesn't fit our current ethos.

No confusion in my mind whatsoever. If fans were in charge of hiring and firing, then we would be nowhere near where we are today and I'm talking pre mahrez. We have far too many impatient fans these days - would you agree?

He couldn't win so no point crying over it. Had he passed and Sterling missed, then he would be getting shit for not shooting himself. Others are as guilty for this and sometimes they score and sometimes they dont. He had an opportunity to shoot and took it - no biggy for me
It might not be a biggy for you...but it will have been for Pep.He commands his forward players to always look to pass if there is another player who can simply roll the ball into the net..Mahrez is still in leicester(spit) land, looking for personal glory..understandable with the talent that he has,and the teams he has played for previously..inc international wise.As another poster has said,he needs to learn, very quickly,to PASS the ball .he doesnt have to be the hero.
He is no longer playing for a team of demonic runners who have less then 30% of the ball, playing on the counter attack, and whose job was to race away 20 yards at full pelt and nick a goal..he is now part of a 5 pronged team of artists ,who should be aware of each others posistions.. at all times.

If this was the move on 18:30, after the Eddie/Fern passage, he was right to shoot. However, he should have buried it.

My main criticism of Riyad is that on too many occasions he chooses the wrong option. He shoots when a pass is number one choice; he passes when he should shoot. When he does choose the right option he blasts it wide. I think we have seen but one goal where he has come in off his right foot and thumped it top corner. He reminds me of a guy who's got his boots on the wrong feet. When he gets them on the correct foot he'll be as influential as the package we thought we'd bought!

Not true - Pep instils a way of play until the final 3rd, after that they are free to express themselves . If it were Kun in that position, would you say the same - I doubt it. For me, Mahrez was well within his right to pull the trigger

Finally, what would have been the outcome if he did pass to Sterling?

No I don't.

If Mahrez or other players were getting stick at games with large sections of the crowd on their backs then I would agree. That isn't the case.

What is the point of having a Player Performance section if posters don't offer their actual opinions? Maybe it should be renamed Player Support and everyone should post how happy they are with their performances?

There will always be a split on certain players if it isnt totally clear that they aren't performing well on a consistent basis. A good example of that is the Gundogan debate. Many (like me) don't rate the version of Gundogan we have ended up with yet others defend him to the hilt. He's not getting stick during games either so again differences of opinion on a forum make no difference whatsoever.

Nicked off the Ederson thread to aid debate:

I can understand what others are saying but I still think Pep would have preferred Riyad play the simple pass to Sterling’s right boot for a fairly straight forward shot with only the keeper to beat (rather than two defenders, the keeper, and one of his own teammates for Riyad).

Still a beautiful passage of play, despite the finish. Would have been a contender for team goal of the season had it gone in.

I have no issue in performance threads, but will always tray and offer an alternative point when I feel a player is being singled out, particulaly in their first season as for the reasons pointed out, many of our current worldies were as bad in their first season

So all fans are patient with the new boys - OK, but we both know that#s bollocks

Nope.Pep says always look to play another player in if he has an easier opportunity to score.its why so many of our classic team goals end up with a player completely unmarked, simply rolling the ball into the net.I read about his instruction in the first few months of his time here, and have watched so many brilliant examples of it since...think stoke city away 1st season as one of many many examples.that has been drilled into the forward players.Mahrez, for whatever reason, has not yet picked up the mantra.
