My first reaction when we got the Pen was who is going to take it?
Obviously Aguero if he was on pitch
Gundogun injured
Would Sterling have had the balls to step up? (scored a cracker at watford)
Jesus if I remember right had missed his one and only pen for city (hit the post I think)
In reality there wasn't a stand out person to take it.
If it was down to me I would have gone one of the Silva's, thou from what I can remember David missed his only spot kick vs Blackpool years ago
I had te exact same reaction. I quickly went through mahrez, Jesus and Silva as having poor penalty records. Hoped it wasn’t one of them. The only real player I could think I would have been confident with was Bernardo.

It’s hard to fault mahrez (penalty aside)when he played a part in us looking the most comfortable we have at anfield in ages. I think pep figured them out and it’s pointless us going to their ground and taking the game to them. They love it when we do that. We attack in numbers and leave a huge gap for them to exploit.
This time pep picked wide men who wouldn’t gamble, who would retain the ball and cycle it. It meant we looked a little toothless but it completely nullified Liverpool.
Don’t forget, salah scored from a sloppy sane pass in their third last year. Pep was intent on killing their ardour and the crowd. Mahrez and sterling did that very well. Then he brought in sane for the kill and it shoukd have worked.

Thought he had a decent game overall. Shame about the penalty, but anyone can miss one. Hopefully it won’t affect him adversely.

I thought he was pretty poor generally, other than Mendy, I don't remember anyone giving the ball away as much as he did. Mostly stood out to me for negatives, especially bottling winnable balls in the air. His heading (I know that's not why he's there) reminds me of a child, the way he shapes up and moves his head out of the way.

I thought he looked the most dangerous of our 3 upfront until Leroy came on. worst penalty since Chris Waddle though......Missed 5 of his last 8 pens...& Pep says he didn't know his record was so bad -unbelievable.

This, from Martin Samuel, sums up the disappointment so far,

"Up steps Riyad Mahrez. This, one imagines, is what the record signing was bought to do. Define games. Win matches. Those huge moments on which title campaigns turn.

That is why City pursued him. That is why Foden was pushed down the pecking order. He’s a kid and everyone knows what City want. Big men, for big occasions. The finished article."

He hasn't looked close to being a finished article.
Pretty fair assessment imho

Have been underwhelmed by Riyad when I was expecting so much.
But I think it's where Pep's playing him

For my money he's no winger He's a number 10 in a 442. Problem is we don't play 442.

We have Sane who is an out and out winger. Raheem is more versatile as he can play centrally.

If Mahrez is going to be effective he needs to play more centrally. But then he gets in the way of the Silvas.
