Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

Guardiola just told the haters of Mahrez to shut up by making him start and guess what he delivered a great performance and scored a world class goal !

Merlin should be on that list.
I think Merlin has the brain and vision, but I'm not sure his ball control is quite at that very exclusive top.

His vision and decisions though, do a good job of mimicking the very best control. But I think he is half a level below those guys.

His first touch is as good anyone's but the others mentioned are dribblers using there brilliant control and David isn't really.

He is looking a lot more comfortable in general play, he's putting in a lot of work defensively and in the first half he was linking up with KDB and Jesus in a way that was incredibly exciting, but IMO he's letting himself down by being selfish in the final third. Two or three times today he could have passed to give someone an easy goal, but decided to shoot and missed. Then to make things worse Jesus started doing it as if it was contagious.

Our attack is built on this camaraderie where everyone works together to put goals on a plate for each other, that's why half our goals are tap ins and Mahrez seemingly hasn't quite got the message yet. Sometimes it's nice to see him just take a shot early, and especially from distance, but he's not got the balance right yet IMO, still adapting from being the big fish at Leicester.

Just frustrating because otherwise he's settling in very nicely.
