Robbie to Barca done deal apparently ??

If he leaves then he leaves for the best team in the world. I take consolation in that.

Good luck Robinho. I hold no hard feelings about this. You cannot begrudge him a career move like that. Any other team and you possibly could but not Barcelona. That is the biggest stage in the world for a footballer. I just hope that he scores a hatrick past Real Madrid to get back at them for the way they made him feel and how he was treated during his time at the club.

It is now imperative we find a replacement of equal or superior talent to the departing one. I would say that this is as good as a done deal personally.

Why?

Look mate, no-one loves City more than me, as everyone will also quite rightly claim. If you know anything about football you should not need me to explain why Barcelona and City are infinite galaxy's apart right now. I'm really hoping you are not using our friendly victory to ask why I am saying this, however i'm sure your clever enough not to be thinking that. Barcelona, like Madrid, are one of only 3 clubs who people perceive to be more than a football club. Let me put it this way, you are a neutral and you are offered the chance of a tour around the Camp Nou and all its glorious history, trophies and enormous presence, or you are offered the chance to walk round COMS. I'm sorry mate, but the Juan Gamper trophy is not going to sway that neutral to take the punt on a walk round COMS instead of the Camp Nou. Barca will be much bigger, much better, have much more history and presence than we ever will have, and that is why the best players want to play there.

Tranny didnt..

No, because Tranny's 'dream' was always to play for Madrid.

there is a high chance that we will be in the same competition as barcelona next season, robinho will know that better than any of us as he in the thick of it at city and come the start of next season all being equal we will likely have a squad comparable to any of big boys. all that would be missing from us that barcelona will have is the glitz and glamour associated with them.
to that end i would like to think he would stay, especially after all that he has said previously, project etc
or am i looking for some unreal loyalty?

Well A) was in my answer to be honest. It would take 50 years of on and off success, or us being constantly in the top 2 and winning trophies for us to be anywhere near to catching them up. However if we're doing that in this league the liklihood is they will still be doing it in their league too. Also whether people like to admit it or not, the climate will always play a major factor in where players go, especially with Barca more than likely being able to offer the same contracts, (if not better due to the tax laws), to the TOP players as what we will be able to offer. Barcalona will always be in more advantageous position than we will be, and will always be held in higher regard than we will be because another thing is that before we can be on a level with Barcelona in peoples eyes, we have to catch up, matcch and surpass those over the road, and even that, (when you look at the way they are held in many a countries eyes), appears a long, daunting process. Ok there's every chance we might pip united to the league and cups over the next few years, but that will mean nothing in the eyes of world football until united are where we once were, and the liklihood of that happening is remote, too. As for B), ok maybe that wasn't the way to put it so I hold my hands up on that one, other than the fact people will see our success as bought, rather than 'earned' like Barca's will always be deemed as. Hope you see where i'm coming from pal.

My point is this mate. History is something that can/will be built by any club that experiences some regular tangible success. The reality is that Barca, while currently being the worlds best club, only started their current run of success in the very early 90's. Im not sure they even won the CL before then but i may be wrong on that one. Real Madird were always the No1 club pre then.

My point is that a prolonged period of City success will automatically see our stature in world club football rise and along with that comes the trappings of the worlds elite players. There are too many elite players to have them all playing for one club so i can certainly see City being one of the few clubs that can attract the very best. It always takes money to start a good run of success and build the said history, something that we have in abundance and while i agree it will take a while to build to the very pinnacle, we now have all the tools to get there. Barca, like any club, will only be there while they have success.

Not only are you looking for that, you are also looking way into the future. We have to go through a bad patch yet, which we will do and its how we come out of that which will determine where we finish because we will have the weight of the laughter of a whole nation on our backs when that bad patch happens. It is more than likely we will not be in the same competition as Barca next season to be honest.
