Come on Kaz that's completely different.

Yaya was a game changer and could win games on his own.

A real "record signing" if you may.

If Rodri "needs legs" around him in order to be any good we shouldn't be spending club record sums on him.

That's the kind of thing the scum did with Pogba and we've crucified them for that.
What a load of bollocks.

Rodri does need more energy around him, its Peps fault hes putting fucking Gundogan there.

Rodri is doing his job, you don't need Gundogan stood 2ft away asking for the ball so he can pass it back or sideways instead.

Agree with this - I can't understand the fans saying Rodri is the problem. Having had time to reflect and calm down a bit from the disappointment the only mistake was not playing Foden and trying to shoe horn Ferna into the team by picking Garcia. Against Real we had fluidity and pace - who'd have thought just making one change and tinkering with formation could change the dynamic of the entire team. We still had chances that we didn't convert - looking at this year objectively this has been a big problem - low conversion rate in some games, usually the ones we lose. I think adding Torres will help but next year I want to see Pep trust Foden and Bernardo more - both are capable of scoring 15-20 goals per year.

I've supported Gundogan since he arrived as I do think he's a classy player but I am seeing him exposed more in the systems we want to play. He has become less instinctive as he's got older and a bit negative especially in front of goal - his stats back that up. Rodri will be important as he has height, can read the game well, is comfortable with both feet and will get better in his second season. As you say key is having more energy in there - Foden & Bernardo were built for the game v's Lyon and I don't understand why Pep didn't use them. Lyon would have had limited info on Phil and both are capable of beating the press. Maybe Bernardo suffers for being too nice and not showing dissent when dropped and Phil is still considered a young player being blooded in.

I really want Pep to sign for at least one season longer, then look to build the team from the jewels we already have in midfield and let's have another 100 point season.

Kev, Foden, Rodri, Torres, Sterling & Sergio with Jesus & Bernardo coming in regularly is a pretty frightening prospect. Maybe a surprise forward signing would be the icing on the cake - I feel better already!

City shouldn't be buying any player who "needs more energy around him".

Especially for a club record fee.

He's a really difficult player to judge. One on hand, clearly got technical ability and is press resistant. On the other, doesn't really seem to have much more to his game. We're all aware of his lack of speed but he rarely gets counter attacking transitions correct. He'll more often than not just be in the wrong position. Overall, his defensive capabilities haven't stood out and aren't on par with Fernandinho of last season. Lacks the ability to progress the ball, lacks athleticism and lacks energy. It's a really strange purchase especially as the earlier rumours that summer linked us to Saul who'd be a much better fit.

My issue is that he's not been allowed to stand on his own two feet. In big games he's being paired with another player who occupies the same space without adding anything.

I really rate him and think he'll come good but the only way we'll actually find out whether he's up to the task or not is to play him as he is intended to fit the system which worked before he turned up.

We're sacrificing numbers further the pitch in order to supposedly help alleviate some of the defensive work load and it's counterproductive. Out of concern, we've paired him with someone who has no mobility and defensive ability anyway and they're treading on each others toes.

It might work on the odd occasion but it's mostly been a failed experiment which we've refused to give up on.

Similar to Foden, we need to keep in mind the long term plan and throw them in at the deep end instead of insisting on letting them dip their toes for the sake of being scared of short term ramifications.

Just so very average in everything he does.
Hopefully he'll prove me wrong next season

I don't understand your point.

So we should only sign players who can do everything themselves? if so then every single player we have ever signed should be out of the door.

Rodri is very good in his specific position, it is Pep's problem/fault that he hasn't put together the team to make it work.

Genuine question, what makes him very good in his specific position? I can see a good player in him but I personally think he's the wrong profile of player.

Strange one Rodri , lovely looking player , but a definite downgrade on Fernandinho , when you think of Fernandinho, he covered every blade of grass , was physical, read the game brilliantly, alway making crucial interceptions, last minute blocks in the box , and a good passer too .
Rodri can do all these things but is a lot slower , not as physical and doesn’t read danger as well it seems .
Fernandinho was the best player in the world in that position for me over the past few seasons , so totally understand it’s hard to get a like for like replacement, but strange thing is , pep seemed to want a different type of player for the system, think back to him nearly signing Jorginho couple years ago , someone who also seemed to be in the Rodri mold.

I think pep in his system , the main thing as the dm you need to be a great passer , the defensive side and phsical capability’s seem to be secondary .

Maybe Rodri will still come good once he’s got a settled defense behind him hopefully next season , but can’t say I’ve been overly impressed with him this season .
Tidy player but jury’s out a little bit .
