Roma away

Of course it was a straw man. "They never do anything about this, but they're probably going to do this if this happens".

I don't disagree that there's a light touch on violence, but you could point to the FFP penalties and say that they've been pretty light touch in comparison to what was threatened. A squad size limit and £49m spending cap are pretty consistent with playing games behind closed doors - stopping way short of what they can do.

Despite this I'm not sure how UEFA can hold football clubs responsible for what happens in City centres when match days are on anyway.

Would you recommend me booking myself now, or waiting for the Thompson(formerly TC)/Spike trips and letting them organise?
From an 'I like my arse so don't necessarily want it being stabbed' point of view.
I'd like to advise but if you get stabbed i'd feel pretty bad

i booked it myself, going with no-one else, and got it for a small amount

going with Spike, who is good, would cost me five times as much

when i'm there i'll meet up with others
went to CSKA last year and Munich three years ago, so giving them a swerve

i went with Spike last year to Barca and had to make my own way to the stadium, although they took us back to the airport after

Fair enough, considering it's my first time in Italy in the away end, I'll probably just pay extra and go on the official trip! Hopefully it will be an enjoyable few days!

You going to any others?

if the clubs were banned their fans might start to take notice

Get there tuesday morning so hoping to sample a bit of culture tuesday day, cant wait to see the colosseum I was always fascinated by roman gladiators as a kid. Gonna have to do some research on what bars/clubs to hit on the tuesday night. Not booked the hotel yet, will depend on transport to and from the airport and the stadium and what part of town we wanna hit for the bars at night. Cant wait!

First thing they told us at the hotel when we were on a family holiday: NO FOOTBALL COLOURS!

Been a city fan all my life but come from Northern Ireland so I actually haven't been to any games and have never made the trip acros despite planning to a lot would you recommend my son (14)and I make the trip to Rome or Munich or a more traditional Stoke home or rags at home ? how would we go about getting two seats beside each other for a low cost at the derby or an away day in Munich or Rome ? many thanks in advance

I'd recommend Munich, but for a first game you might prefer a home match in Mcr to tie in with the stadium tour and museum etc

munich.

no brainer.

Have to emphasise to all City fans going to Rome - be careful, don't wear colours and try to stay together. For any who went to Napoli you saw how bad it can get - and Rome and Lazio have a reputation for stabbing in and around the arse. The Italian police aren't particularly keen on protecting English fans either so best to avoid colours at all times. A cracking City though and will be an awesome away day out. Hopefully we will be through by then!

But at Juve away we had no trouble

One of my best friends is a Liverpool fan and copper.

He has gone all over Europe with Liverpool and told me last night to stay well clear.

Comes to something when he says the police are worse than the fans!

One of his group was glassed as he enjoyed his lunch in a cafe side street.

They kept them all in for two hours after a visit the other year.

He did admit that Liverpool against any Italian side brings a different element, but he told me it's not worth the hassle, and even some of our younger guns could find themselves very quickly out of their depth.

Juventus are a much more civilized outfit. Especially since the scousers killed 35 of their fans. Rome is a totally different set up, an old city, old stadium, corrupt local police and viscous oddball fans who go to the match tooled up. You can spend an hour being pelted with coins, and if you as much as look in their direction the police will wade in with batons and start twatting you about the head.

Such a lovely place. Nice one Uefa.

I'm giving this one a wide berth. Went to Napoli and was very close to getting carved up, but for an unmarked police car pulling up & the copper drawing his handgun, we would have been fucked. One of the people with us walking back to the hotel did get stabbed.

This will be similar IMO. Middlesbrough & Spurs have played in Rome & had problems. I think when Boro were there Ultras turned up armed with axes & all kinds & attacked normal fans just eating their dinner. Judging by the article below people would be best to avoid drinking in this boozer as it seems to attract trouble.

As already mentioned the police are quick to kick off too & don't mind wading in with batons. Not worth the hassle IMO.

Been to Rome a few times, holidays and football(not with city)those who are going for a few days will love it,it really is a great city, but not IMO for football.
Was holidaying in 2007 and managed to get tickets for lazio v madrid in a chumps game....it was fuckin mental.
I ended up leaving the game with about 30 mins left, was truly shitting myself and I was with the lazio fans...they DO NOT give a fuck about anything. And as some have said,it's not just the fans, the carabinieri are even worse...
My advice would be....straight into the stadium avoiding any bars and straight back to your hotel, forget going on the piss,it's not worth it.......GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE.

Same here mate, but it's dodgy there,I didn't think anything of it when I went to the lazio game and was sat in a bar full of lazio fans.Everything was fine, then some geezer ran in and shouted summat in Italian, all I caught was the word "ultra".
The bar emptied in about 10 seconds, all leaving banners, scarves, flags the lot....all legged it down the street,I stayed.
About 30 seconds later, sure enough the bar fills up with all these nutters, all I got was a few dirty looks..the point I'm making is,these "ultras" were lazio fans as well......their OWN fuckin fans ran off from them....ITS CRAZY.
