We don't want him, simple answer to the question, we would not have accepted an offer from Southampton if the club thought he was the real deal.

We insert buy back clauses to protect us if the player does fully develop and reach our level, Lavia is a decent player, had a very decent first season in the PL, but he was still part of a team that was comfortably relegated.

There is no guarantee he will ever reach the level of Rodri, which is what he would need to be a regular for us. That certain midfield was a proper starter on England, too. I'd love to see the academy guys get more run but the reality is that it is going to be rare for them to be able to play at the level required early in the their careers. That presents two options. The player can seek first-team time at another club or they can stay and be content as a reserve with the hope of eventually breaking through. Most take the former option and it is also beneficial for the club since it gets the revenue of the sales for players that likely wouldn't be major contributors. Yeah, it feeds the narrative that City doesn't develop but when you are pocketing more than 100 million in two years from the academy, who cares?
