Romeo Lavia

As somebody who doesn't watch our young players it seems that there are a number of players who OP's rate and believe that they should get time with or around the first team squad.

This obviously gives the coaches a chance to assess their abilities and suitabilities for playing time , but actual game time appears to be incredibly limited, due to the quality of the squad.

Apart from loans and or sales with buy back options , how else do the players get the chance to show their quality ? Pep appears reluctant to throw kids in games which are already won .

Tricky balance but I guess and have to trust the professionals to get it right .

Very disappointed about this, the lad is an obvious star in the making and could have been used from the bench in winning situations to see if he was ready for the step up, I am sure it would be easier for these talented youngsters to do so than step into a shit team on loan, you play better with better players around you.

The downside is others will follow out of the door, I dare say Delap will already be thinking maybe it is time to move on and secure a first team place at another PL club, maybe injuries at the wrong time have hindered his progression.

As rich as the club are, it would still be nice if we produced and then introduced a few more homegrown into the squad.

Will somebody be given the chance to replace Mahrez who is coming up to 32yo or will it just be easier to go and buy somebody else's ex-youth player that has been afforded game time?

Of course, the upside is the money that they are bringing in is a good steady income.

Nooooo My Precious!!!!

Umm actually I see this more as a development loan and hope he develops at Southampton. Maybe in 3 years when he's 22 and not 19.. he might have a way into City's first team! *fingers crossed*

Pep is not trusting youngster like Lavia to play midfield, i mean the likes of Foden which projected to play midfield in the future is not being trusted how someone like Lavia can?

He will, as he joined on 1 July 2020.
Exactly, but it takes 3 years to count as club trained mind. Don't spread fake news ;)

After 1 year at Soton he would count as academy trained though, but he would have to add another season for us til season 2024/25 is over to be
'club trained home grown' for us.

Agree, I am disappointed too. The academy may bring money in but we appear to spend an even bigger amount to bring players in. I was always impressed by Lavia when I saw him play, really thought he would have a future with us.

You're right, my bad. Confused it with the B-List eligibility, which is 2 years.

I get that obviously.

I thought Lavia was a defensive midfielder unlike Foden ?

Really like this kid but it's good business, I felt he levelled off a bit last year probably lost interest in the level he's was playing at. A good price and a good move for a young man with a lot of potential who isn't ready for our level at the moment.

Not seen him, so no judgement whatsoever. What's staring me in the face is that he's eighteen. Phillips and Rodri are both twenty-six. Youngish, for their position. They could go on for years, if they're happy. Lavia wasn't getting near first-team football.
Good move for him, Southampton are a good club, PL as well. This is a step up, not a step down. Decent money, good deal all round.
Shame to lose a guy called Romeo, though. Lot of jokes could have come out of that.

Disagree, I think playing games in the premier league or at decent level will be far better for their development then either bench appearances for us or even a loan, and more players can benefit from it than waiting to get 10 minutes with us.. The buy backs protect us if they prove good enough.

Happy to trust anybody at left back though

Hope his good at repeatedly passing back to the goalkeeper and timewasting for their sake

Good luck to the kid, only concern with a move to Southampton is I am not sure how long Hasenhuttl will be in charge for, as they were crap for the last couple of months of the season.
They’ve gutted the back room staff, most who were there weren’t actually Ralph’s guys so he’s been given the chance to recruit his own back room staff. Although I’d say it’s last chance saloon now and another bad season means he’s gone.

He ain’t ready if he ready in 2/3 years time we have that buyback option! City are in the game of winning games! We might be having 2/3 regular youth players playing in this team in a year or two!

This year mcatear and Palmer will get a lot more game time this season too
