Why bother having an academy at all then?
This is a ridiculous question. The answer is obvious, you hope you can bring through the next Messi or Ronaldo, that's why all club (apart from the stupid ones) have them. However realistically there will be very few Messi's or Ronaldo's, so getting them to the first team isn't easy.

We have only really just started with this academy, and it will be a few years before it bears full fruit, I'm confident we'll see those players come through in the future, and if we can't produce them, then there's not many clubs better placed.

It needs patience.

he has had his chances albeit brief ones but if he ain't good enough such is the quality we already have he will have to go elsewhere
by the way what do you count as the risk to blood a youngster?

So he had his chances for City, played a blinder on most of those occasions, what is your point regarding that ? What is he supposed to do when picked ?

Spot on mate.

Very little I'd have thought. Monaco buy these players to make a profit, not to sell them back on the cheap. A few of the Benfica fans were claiming the same about €15m being a lot of money for an untested Bernardo Silva, but within 6 months of him being allowed to play first team football it quickly looked like a fraction of his actual value and I imagine they have the same plans for Rony. Seems ironic that we are on the verge of buying De Bruyne for £50m, after Chelsea did pretty much this exact same thing with him.

Can't blame him for going there, it's turning into a Portuguese haven and a place that gives young players the chance to shine. We really need to start showing that we are willing to actually give these players a chance, otherwise we'll be losing a lot more like this.

What exactly are we losing? He's a player that isn't currently good enough to get on the bench, who's in his last year of contract and has supposedly indicated he has no intention of signing a new one.

I'd sooner we keep playing the best players available, compete for every trophy, have the academy sustain itself by selling on players like Lopes for good fees and wait until we can produce somebody of the calibre needed to play in our first 11. It's a great price for him, He will make a decent career for himself but i very much doubt he'll ever reach the level required to make it in our team. This transfer is the best result for everybody.

Utd & Arsenal both use young players in their squads & imo haven't got many comparable to the quality City have. If Denayer for instance was at Utd Arse, Liverpool, he would play regularly imo. Not necessarily always at cb, but he'd play. I recon Rony would have been given plenty of minutes by now & they would have an idea whether he would likely make it or not, then act accordingly. If he had been given playing time at City previously, or even seen other kids getting some time, he would imo, be much more likely to have signed a contract & therefore be wiiling to go out on loan, knowing the club were genuinely interested in developing him. The fact that hardly any kids are getting even a sniff, is sending the wrong message to all of them.

I'm not convinced Rony would make it at City, I think he is lacking in a couple of areas, but I can also see where I might be horribly wrong about that. I hope we have a buyback clause.

no way he would get in either of utd and arsenal's team imo
i keep hearing this playing time, when does he play?
he's not good enough to play regularly in a top 4 club at this moment in time, we can't afford to send him out on loan again as he will walk
denayer is a different kettle of fish, we have seen something in him to give him an extended contract so he can go out on loan to develop further

The academy hasn’t just started, it’s been going for a long time. We’ve recently spent £200 million on a shiny new complex but I’m not sure why we couldn’t have been producing players in the meantime?

They're not developing doing that though, how could they ?

The same way most of the rags' kids, Sterling etc did. They come on for a few minutes, get used to the feel of it, & we find out if they have anything to work with. If they do, then they repeat it again, then again. If they continue to look the part, they perhaps start in the cup, & then if they look the part, they start in a league game. If they do well there, they become regulars, then next summer or even January we move some of the lesser senior players on, whilst bring a couple more ikids into the picture.

And so on, until suddely we find that players suchas Navas, Fernando Demichelis, Clichy have been replaced by homegrown city kids.
