Rony Lopes

Was here before Begiristain so he is surplus to requirements because he will not get credit for signing him and bringing him through.

Ridiculous transfer, he's 19 ffs!
And by all accounts would have walked on a free at 20.

Exactly. If Lopes couldn't be convinced to sign a longer term deal then we either sell him now, or we let him walk in 12 months and have to go down the drawn out, uncertain, compensation route when he signs for someone else.

So we have bought an average player like Delph to fill the quota when we could have just promoted Lopes. So dissapointed we are letting him go.

that's my whole point the occasional sub appearance when the game is done and dusted is not good enough for him

It wouldn't be an occasional subs place if he played well, it would be that for a while, then a cup game, then a starting place in some league games, then we would get rid of a senior pro to use Rony. If on the other hand, he couldn't make an impression, he would go.

This is how it is done, in most of the football world.

Apologies if I find it disappointing that one of if not our best academy player has been sold without having a proper run in the first team.

I don't think "Shut the academy down" but Lopes literally didn't get a chance. We have 4 better CBs than Denayer, I suppose we should sell him too?

Could you once make a intellectually honest argument. Denayer signed a 5 year contract.

2 entirely different players, who play in entirely different positions. An equivalent for Lopes, in terms of the position he'd play, would be Silva, Nasri or De Bruyne (assuming he joins). That kind of indicates he's some distance from being a first team player.
