Rony Lopes

I think that argument is a little irrelevant these days tbh. He's at a bigger club with bigger expectations and loads more media attention, bigger resources and lots of star names. Not a club that couldn't afford to play its players for about six months where he had to make do with what he had at one point.

Plus, he's likely leaving in a year. Why would he give a fuck about promoting a kid? Not really buying it that he'll have a long term view here, which he would have had at Malaga to an extent as his rep was being built again post Real.

They still had to produce a heck of a lot at their respected clubs. Isco had a highly promising season at Malaga where he helped them to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Yeah they did, but my points still stand. It is a lower level and not quite the same at all. His hand wasn't quite as vast as it is here.

La Liga is still a tough league to ply your trade at when you are a youngster.

In his rare good games for us last season Nasri played a part in getting us a result in Rome.

1 good performance in a season!
Lopes is on a quarter of his wage is young and hungry and is club trained(home grown on acid) and it would allow us to use Nasri as a bargaining chip for our top summer target. for me it's a no brainier Pogba and Lopes > Nasri

Nasri still has 158 appearances and 25 goals in a City shirt and 449 and 64 in total as a professional. Lopes maybe young but he still has a lot to learn.

Yes he has experience but he is also a 28 year old player who wants to be first choice and will definitely not be so so why not sell while we can command a good few and get his high salary off the bench. Let's face it we all know he could turn very sour if he's not getting his way and there are a lot more positives to having Rony in our squad for me than Nasri especially considering the squad place he will be filling.

If he isn't prepared to stick around there is not much more the club can do.

I think if a good offer came in for Nasri I'd let him go and use Lopes as his replacement unless KDB comes. I think Lopes looks like he could be a fantastic player, and could easily take up Nasri's role for me. Rather tie down Lopes' future here by giving him game time than letting him leave and ruing our mistake in a year or two.

He's nowhere near as good as nasri currently, but I think you're right. Lopes has all the potential in the world, and Nasri just seems to be falling down the pecking order and he never seems to be anywhere near his best when he's coming off the bench.

Might be time for a somewhat ballsy decision. If Lopes fulfils his potential then it would pay off massively.

Honestly I have no idea how good Lopes can be. No doubting his potential, but has he got the ability to really make the breakthrough? Has anyone watched his games whilst on loan? My only issue with Manuel is his reluctance to play younger players and if Lopes is not going to play better to cash in. having said all that maybe the club are preparing for a new manager after this season then maybe the youngsters are being groomed for integration into the first team at that point. I think the team selection next Monday, when we have so many unavailable, will tell us a great deal about how some of the young players who did well during pre-season are going to be used.

He was showing consistency at reserve level 2 years ago.

I watched him a lot at Lille, I'm fairly confident I watched all of his games, but may have missed the odd one. He was consistently their best player, the only inconsistency came from his injuries, and the fact their manager picked some awfully defensive teams and gave him very little to work with. He was the best player they've had since Hazard.

Really?

I'm not saying he isn't a talent, but he blows too hot and cold for me. I see more in Denayer and Iheanacho than I do in Lopes. Not in terms of ability, but in terms of their overall mentalities and maturity as players. They just seem more composed and more confident in breaking into the first team. Lopes will probably never make it at City, but I for one really hope he is a gem.

Well given that Lopes has actually played a handful of competitive games for City and been outstanding if not man of the match in about half of them, while neither Kelechi or Denayer have even set foot on the field for us in a real game, I can't say I agree with your assesment about him lacking the composure or confidence to play for the first team. To be honest, it's odd to criticise his maturity, composure and confidence, as they are some of his strengths.

Lopes looked promising under both Mancini and Pellegrini but both managers must of picked up something in his game to be that reluctant to give him more game time.

That reluctance will be the quality of players we have in those positions rather than a fault on his part.
As others have said if you watched him at Lille you would want us to be getting him.
Its just a case of having the balls and giving him a go.

It's a quandary for our manager, on the one hand he may want to give these young players a chance but the fear of failure, that if he picked Lopes and he had a stinker or cost us a game then he would be slated for playing an inexperienced kid in the team. On the other hand, give someone like Lopes a chance and he shines then he is the manager who is giving youth a chance. At some point we have to start trusting these youngsters to make the grade and give them a chance. lopes for me has shown enough the last couple of seasons to deserve his chance in a few games

Pellegrini isn't frightened in giving the kids their opportunity but it is down to his judgement if they have enough qualities for the first team.
