However, if you asked a manager, if it was going to cost him his job then he would give up that chance.OB1 said:Soulboy said:I'm surprised that anyone thinks Hughes is "building for the future".
In my humble opinion, nothing could be further from the truth!
In reality, Hughes has to achieve next season, top 6 MINIMUM, probably top 4, so he's going to have to fill his squad out with Premiership experience and battle hardened players (ala Barry and RSC, Tevez?).
He can't take risks, he can't buy bargains, he can't take a flyer on some exotic star... he NEEDS a flying start and challenging from day one.
Hughes knows this is his last throw off the dice and I think we can expect more of the same this transfer window.
Toure... Lescott... Bentley... if he could get Warnock, Samba, Pederson and Tugay in he's be like a pig in shit!
Unquestionably there's a lot of truth in this: Hughes primarily wants players with proven Premier League ability and experience. Bit of a shame in some ways as I would like to see us buying more players who fall into the category of 'next generation of world stars'.
What Hughes is doing is simple... This summer he will shave the squad right down and bring in quality players a level up from what we have brought in before (bar Robinho), then next year we will have the base to to get 2 or 3 top world class players who can then get us into the top 4. I think with the purchases of RSC, Barry and Lescott etc Hughes will expect to get top 6 which is realistic. He is most definately building for the future and you can see this in every player he brings to the club.
